Year Four - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

Welcome to the second week of the term. It began with our St Thomas day celebrations which the students enjoyed. Thanks to those who were able to attend the prayer liturgy.

This week the children continued with their sock puppets and created stories around these characters. They have worked on writing a short narrative and using connections between numbers when multiplying or dividing.

Mathematics: With the Olympics starting we will be starting the St Thomas'  Adventure in Paris. We will be looking at different events and exploring the mathematics particularly fractions and decimals.

English: We will continue with our book Waves and focus on publishing a narrative text. We will read with partners and develop fluency and expression.

Religious Education: In RE this week we are interested to discover more about our students religious backgrounds and experiences.  They will be taught how to conduct a short interview. The children will then bring home a sheet of questions and we politely request that you can find a few minutes to allow them to interview you!

The questions will allow them to know their story, why they attend St Thomas and then to be able to share customs, festivals and things special to them.

Next week the children will also be reflecting on the Last Supper of Jesus and creating their image of what this may have looked like.

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR:  Students name and share some of the different interests that make up their identity or individuality. We will learn about some of the differences and similarities between students in the class and appreciate that it is important to respect differences between people.

Auslan: Students will be learning how to generate different ways to translate verbs by showing the actions. They will also be learning two differences between sentences in English and those in Auslan. Some signs will be today, tomorrow, and on the weekend.
