Dear Parents and Carers,
We've encountered some issues this week with students using digital devices and social media inappropriately. Research indicates that young children often lack the brain development and maturity to navigate social media safely, leading to challenges for both parents and teachers when problems arise.
This is why many social media apps recommend a user age of 13+, and why governments are implementing stricter regulations, such as the ban on phone and smartwatch use during school hours in NSW. We understand the immense pressure parents face from children wanting to stay connected online. Please know that we support you in maintaining firm boundaries, even when societal pressure suggests otherwise.
It's essential to supervise your child's use of digital devices and monitor what they are doing online. Regularly checking their web browser history and online activity can prevent exposure to inappropriate content and help guide them towards safer online practices. We encourage you to be vigilant and proactive in this area.
To further support our community, we are offering a Cyber Safety Talk after assembly on Friday, 23rd August. This session will provide valuable insights and strategies for keeping your child safe online.
Managing this isn't easy, but we are here to work with you to ensure our children have a safe and happy environment.
Thank you for your continued support.
