Sutherland Network Public Speaking Competition- Term 3, 2024
All students from Years K-6 will participate in a Puclic Speaking Competition this term. Students will have the opportunity to learn to become an effective public speaker, which is one of the most empowering and rewarding goals a child can pursue during their school journey. The benefits of learning to speak confidently in public at a young age can pay huge dividends as students develop into adults. Public speaking is an important life skill that any one of us can be called upon to use at various times in our lives.
Teachers will be incorporating this task in the English block this term and the competition will consist of four rounds:
1. Class- Week 3/4
2. Grade- Week 6
3. Stage- Week 9
4. Interschool (Finals) Round - Week 2, Term 4
NB: The final inter school round is only for students in Stages 2 and Stage 3.
We look forward to sharing the progress of each round as they progress and will invite parents into the sessions as they occur, stay tuned for more information.
Author Visit – Dr Cameron Stelzer, The Story Doctor
On Tuesday 13th August we have a special visit from Author and Illustrator Dr Cameron Stelzer happening here at OLSS. Dr Cameron is visiting our school to run workshops with our K-6 students and students will be taking a behind-the-scenes look at creating a book, and applying their own creative components. Our students and teachers are looking forward to a great day!
In conjunction with the author visit, families will have a special opportunity to purchase signed and personalised copies of Cameron’s books at special prices. Individual books are $10-$15 each and there are also exclusive book sets available. Students will receive an order form on the day of the workshops and forms can be returned the following day to the school office (payment is via the online payment portal listed on the form, no cash).
