A message from Mrs Tabatha Wain

Another exciting term in the library! How busy we have been!

Early Stage 1 have continued to enjoy developing their library skills by borrowing and browsing a range of books. They also participated in the reading of Luna Roo - The Kangaroo Baller written by Adam Jackson as part of the 2026 National Simultaneous Storytime. Students thoroughly enjoyed reading Luna Roo and it was the perfect precursor to the Soccer World Cup.

Stage 1 also participated in reading Luna Roo - The Kangaroo Baller written by Adam Jackson, as part of the 2026 National Simultaneous Storytime. Stage 1 students are also excitedly learning about koalas as part of their current unit of work. Through reading and researching, they are gathering facts about these fascinating native animals in preparation for writing their own information reports. Students are also expressing their creativity by drawing koalas, helping to deepen their understanding of their unique features.

Stage 2 students are working collaboratively in small groups to explore the fascinating topic of animal migration. After reading Amazing Animal Journeys by Jennifer Cossins, students are researching different species and learning about the remarkable journeys these animals undertake. Using their gathered information, students are creating informative brochures or pamphlets that highlight key facts and interesting details about their chosen animals. This project not only enhances their research and teamwork skills but also allows them to develop their ability to communicate information effectively to others.

Stage 3 began the term discussing the importance of reading as a lifelong skill. Students have been engaged in learning how to choose a 'good fit book' to read for an increasing period of time. Building our reading stamina has opened Stage 3 up to some friendly competition as to which class can read uninterrupted for the longest period of time. S3H and S3P are currently tied at 16 minutes. As part of their science unit, Stage 3 students are researching Australian inventions and technologies that have significantly contributed to the wellbeing and health of people. After exploring a range of innovations, from medical devices to health-related technologies, students will use their findings to write an information report about a chosen invention. This project encourages critical thinking and appreciation for Australian ingenuity, while helping students develop their research and writing skills, and connecting scientific concepts to real-world applications that benefit communities.

Library Borrowing

A further reminder to please support your child to be able to borrow books from the library by sending them in on their library day with a suitable library bag. Ben Venue has library bags available for purchase from the front office, however these are not mandatory. Any good quality material or plastic coated bag will be fine. A pillowcase is even a great option!  It is essential for the protection of the books inside that library bags are not paper bags or bags with holes in them. Please refer to the below table if you are not aware of which day your child visits the library.

As well as during your child's regular borrowing time, the library is also open Monday - Thursday before school and at lunchtimes. Whilst our mornings are usually for quiet reading, drawing and colouring and borrowing, lunchtimes offer a variety of activities.

Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition

Congratulations to Amelia Paull, Angus Faint, Georgia Clark and Sophie Chapman-Goldzieher who proudly represented Ben Venue at the Multicultural Perspectives Public Speaking Competition local final that was held at Drummond in Week 9. All students spoke with confidence, clarity, and passion, showcasing their impressive communication skills. We are proud of their hard work and dedication, and they did an outstanding job representing our school community. A big thank you to Mrs Wassman for her support in getting the students prepared for the final.

Happy reading,
