Deputy Principal
Year 8 and 11
As we wrap up Term 2, we want to acknowledge the incredible effort our students have put into their studies, especially as many have navigated the stress associated with half-yearly assessments. It has been a challenging time, but the resilience and dedication shown by our boys have been truly commendable. Many boys approached these tasks with determination, learning valuable skills in time management, resilience, and study planning. We encourage all students to view their results as a stepping stone, not a final judgement, and to remember that learning is a continual process.
Parent-Teacher Evening and Ongoing Communication
Thank you to all parents and caregivers who attended our recent Parent-Teacher Evening. Your involvement in your child’s education is integral to their development both academically and personally.
We’d also like to remind everyone that the Parent-Teacher Evening is just one of many ways to stay connected. If you have any concerns or questions about your son’s progress, please feel free to email the school and address your correspondence to the relevant staff member. Open communication helps ensure every student receives the support they need.
Holiday Time: Relax, Reflect, and Adventure
The upcoming school holidays are a much-needed opportunity for rest and rejuvenation. After a busy term, it’s important for students to prioritise their wellbeing by taking time away from study and screens. Holidays present the chance to reflect on the term’s achievements and to recharge before the new semester.
We encourage boys to explore new interests, connect with friends and family, and enjoy outdoor activities. Sydney and its surrounds offer countless adventures—catch a bus, train or ferry to a new suburb or park, go fishing, take a hike, ride mountain bikes through the bush, or visit the city. Stepping outside of routine not only supports physical health, but also emotional wellbeing and independence.
To inspire everyone to make the most of the break, we are continuing with our Holiday Adventure Challenge! Here’s how it works:
· Boys are invited to try something new or go on an adventure with a friend/s.
· Take photos and write a short story (a few paragraphs) about your experience.
· Email your story and pictures or give it to meby the end of the first week of Term 3
Students who submit their adventure stories will be entered in a draw to win a free lunch for themselves and their friends.
As we reach the conclusion of an incredibly challenging half-yearly assessment period, I want to congratulate the boys on their effort and determination as we move into their last term of Year 11.
It is important to acknowledge that the workload and expectations will increase significantly. The boys will need to balance completing tasks, managing outstanding work, while preparing for their final assessments. These assessments will be conducted in a two-week block format, with multiple subjects being examined over just a few days, making careful planning and organisation essential. Boys will not attend normal classes during this time.
At the same time, I encourage all boys to take regular breaks from screens and study. With holidays soon transitioning into what will effectively be study vacations for Year 12, it’s vital for them to strike a balance between work and rest.
Thank you once again for your continued support this term. Please do not hesitate to contact me by phone or email (addressed to the school with attention to myself) if you have any questions or concerns.
I would also like to congratulate all the boys for their excellent engagement this term and commend them on their outstanding uniform presentation. We look forward to seeing our boys return refreshed and ready for new challenges and learning in Term 3.
Wishing you all a safe, restful and enjoyable break.
