Deputy Principal
Year 7 and 10
Year 7 have well and truly settled into Epping Boys, developing the following skills: packing school bags for the next day, using public transport and the school buses, arriving to school early, or at least on time, navigating their way to four different classrooms per day, remembering to pack their PE uniform, enrolling and participating in school sports, participating in music/orchestra activities before and after school, and playing down on the school oval during lunchtime – all guided by the school value of respect, responsibility and engagement.
So, well done, boys. And well done to the parents. As I have said before, many times, organisation and attitude are the key drivers of success at Epping Boys. The school has a lot to offer, and the boys need these two skills to get the best out of themselves and the school.
In the 2 week break please get outside. Don’t spend too much time at home with technology. Stay away from Macquarie Centre. Shopping centres are no place for teenage boys. Boys are best when they spend time with family and friends, enjoy the great outdoors, ride your bikes, kick a football in the park, go for a bush walk, Sydney beaches are still fun in winter, use your Opal card to explore Sydney – the Opera House, walk the Harbour Bridge. It’s all out there in one of the world’s best cities.
The theme of my report for Year 10 is CHOICE. The big focus in the past few weeks has been Subject Selection for 2027. To prepare the boys for Year 11, faculties have presented to the boys, who are now evaluating which 6 subjects to choose for Year 11.
Years 11 and 12 work better when the boys are interested in their subjects. On the first day of Term 3, Tuesday 21st July, we have TWO big events that I recommend parents and students attend:
With all this information the boys will be well equipped the make the right CHOICE.
There has been a noticeable SHIFT in the boys' attitude to schooling. They are maturing and making better choices with their behaviour. Yes, the boys will still make mistakes, it’s part of growing up, and we understand that risk taking and impulsivity is a characteristic teenage male behaviour. However, when speaking with the boys we emphasise the IMPACT their behaviour has on others. So slow down, take a breath and think it though, how will my behaviour impact another person?
Finally, and as always, please use the 2 week break to get outside with your family and friends. Get off the technology and enjoy what Sydney has to offer – whether it is the city or nature, it is yours for the taking.
