Grade 5/6

On Tuesday our class had a fun day.
We had a fun day because of our positive actions during the term. We had to fill a bowl up with beads of positivity.
Firstly, the Grade 6s did construction with cardboard boxes with Mrs Cotter and the Grade 5s did cooking with Mrs Burchett. We were lucky that we got to do the construction first because we could use all the nails we wanted with no restrictions.
Then, after the first hour, we swapped. The Year 6s did cooking and the Year 5s did construction. We made yummy cupcakes. The cupcakes were very easy to make and were delicious to eat after the day.
After recess, we watched Penguins of Madagascar. It was very funny. The main characters were Skipper, Private, Rico and Kowalski. We then went to PE and played fun games such as CTF (Capture the Flag).
We would like to give a special thanks to Blythe, Mrs Cotter and Mrs Burchett, and everyone who got a bead in the bowl for making the fun day happen.

My mini cardboard church was inspired by the real Castlemaine Catholic Church, and I even tried to make the bell tower. Using all the tools was very fun. We figured out how to use them correctly and which screws worked the best. In class, we were reading a book called How to Build, so that was handy for our work.
At first, it was kind of hard, but I persevered and did it. For me, the bell tower was the hardest because it kept falling over. The church turned out pretty similar to my original idea, and I even added a stained glass window, although that wasn’t very good. In the end, I added a few tweaks and it was done!

Today St Mary’s had rotations as part of Refugee Week. We split into our house groups and participated in rotations run by the Wellbeing and Inclusion team.
We read a book called My Two Blankets. It is about a girl named Cartwheel and her aunt moving to a new country. She was afraid until a girl waved at her. She didn’t understand English, but the next day she went back to the park where the girl had waved at her, but she wasn’t there.
Then they went again after three days and they became friends. The girl helped Cartwheel learn English. The blanket that Cartwheel had started changing when she didn’t feel lonely anymore.
Livinia and I let the groups pick two coloured circle sheets of paper. One side had to be about happiness, and the other could be any uncomfortable feeling, such as fear, sadness or anger. Then we asked people to share. We got a lot of great answers.
