On reflection Mrs Townsend and Mrs Bull believed that we needed to improve our introductions and include Sizzling Starts.  We used our brave leader Mr Reeves as our inspiration.  Here are some of our Sizzling Starts.

Did you know that Mr Reeves was the Dux of Guyra Central School in 1983?  Now that’s an amazing achievement.  I think I will listen to him more now - Charlotte McRae.

No wonder, Mr Reeves is the principal.  It’s like it was written in the stars.  He was the smartest in the school, after all.  I think he has lost some of his smartness over the years and he has lost some hair too - Sophie Clendenning.

The amazing Mr Reeves was the Dux of his school in 1983…Shesh, my dad wasn’t even born.  Someone is aging - Harrison Riggall.

The principal of Martin’s Gully Public School (MGPS), but what was he in 1983?  Well, he was the Dux of Guyra Central School!  What does that mean?  It means the most intelligent student in that year.  No wonder he is the principal of MGPS - Cali Petitt.

Do you think we have grabbed your attention?  Would you like to read more?  That’s the main purpose of a great Sizzling Start to draw the reader in.

Our next information report is on notable Australians from the 1800’s.  Australians such as, John Cutts, Governor LaTrobe, Matthew Flinders, Edmund Barton, Edith Cowan, Mary Reiby, AB (Banjo) Paterson, Truganini, Bennelong, Elizabeth Macarthur, Dame Nellie Melba, Ned Kelly and Moondyne Joe just to name a few.  We can’t wait to share these when they are finished.

In Visual Arts, the children have studied the facial features and sketched their chosen notable Australian. This week we will create a clay face representation using our observations and sketches to guide us.  Everyone is looking forward to working with a different artistic medium.  We have spoken to the children about asking permission to bring a rolling pin from home to school to use in our clay-making session.  Any assistance regarding this activity is very much appreciated.  Thank you.

In Maths, we have had a daily focus on division, multiplication, addition and subtraction number processes.  Measurement of volume, mass and capacity have also formed a large part of our learning this term.  The children have enjoyed the real-life applications and hands-on activities in these units.

Stage 3 have spent the term participating in a program called Creating Chances which uses sport as a way to develop resilience and getting along skills. The children were placed in teams that enabled them to connect with different people and fine-tune their interpersonal skills. We have been impressed with the children’s enthusiasm during these sessions.  Please see the pictures underneath.
