Rhyming Narratives - Year 4

Year 4 have been working on their creative writing skills during Term 4. One of their final challenges was to see if they could tell a story that also incorporated elements of poetry and rhyme. All students enjoyed this challenge and produced some fantastic work. An extra well done goes to Charlie Hague in 4U who wrote such an entertaining rhyming narrative that he performed his poem in front of his grade, and then went on to perform his poem in front of the whole of the primary campus including all students and staff! Here is a video of Charlie performing his poem for Year 4, and the words can be viewed below:

The Pirates from Rottnest Island: The speck in the sky

by Charlie Hague, 4U

Sailing through the seven seas,

Was Captain Quokka and his crew with ease.

“Wake Up!” a voice whispered from all the way up,

T’was Pirate Axolotl, handing Captain a cup.

“I had the best dream last night!” said Captain happily.

We were sailing through the big, wide, beautiful sea.

He got out of bed to sail the boat,

But was interrupted by a screaming goat.

“This isn’t the ship!” he said, filled with rage,

“This is the town, and that’s a bird in a cage!”

“I want to sail my ship right now!”

“And get rid of that smelly cow!”

“But… he’s my pet!” said a sailor sadly.

“Well I don’t like him, because he smells really badly!”

“Take me to my ship, ‘The Bouncer’”

He said loudly in the voice of an announcer.

So the crew snuck over to the ship.

Whilst sharing cookies, flavoured chocolate chip.

“Where should we go today, Captain?”

Questioning Sailor Axolotl, wondering what might happen.

“We’ll follow this map, that I found the other day,”

“Apparently it leads to a place called Pineville Way!”

The ship set off in search of the treasure.

Just like Captain Cook, sailing the Endeavor.

But when there were about half-way there,

They saw something in the distance that gave them a scare.

A speck in the sky is what they saw…

They had never seen anything like this before.

But the speck became bigger, and closer to the boat.

So Captain Quokka cleared his throat.

“Who, and What are those things?”

“And little space ship, with that annoying, *DING*”

“We are the aliens, and we’re gonna take over the world!”

“Oh yeah?” said Pirate Axo. “You’re gonna have to go through us first.

Then a battle commenced, with everyone fighting.

Well, everyone except Sailor Axolotl. (He was holding his cookie and biting.)

After two hours of this nonsense. They agreed on a deal.

“You give us some gold, and we’ll give you a hot meal.”

The aliens agreed with this, they just adored food.

But they snatched it off the pirates, which they thought was quite rude.

After the pirates got back home, they shared all of the gold.

And every single last piece of it was sold.

But the pirates were happy, they were now rich!

So they took off the pirate hats and decided to switch.

But it was not comfy, so they soon swapped back.

And never again, did those pirates slack.
