Dear Kingswood Community,

As we delve into the vibrant month of November, our school garden continues to flourish.

Here are some highlights from the past month:

Professional Development Day with SAKG:

We are connected to our Community. I had the privilege of attending a professional development day with the SAKG community. I was able to connect with fellow educators, explore diverse garden lessons and cook in the kitchen. I was able to gain inspiration from the various program styles across the state. I look forward to sharing some of these ideas at Kingswood in the future.

Growing in the Garden:

We bid farewell to the last of our broccoli, a testament to the successful harvest this season. Classes have planted climbing beans, nasturtiums and pumpkins in the garden. Students have had to work in teams and have shown persistence when preparing the garden beds for planting in for the coming weeks. Students have also had the opportunity to harvest our garlic and onions which have been growing for the last 6 months. A group of students also did a marvelous job plating the garlic, so it could be hung in the shed to dry out, ready to use next year.

Students have taken a responsible risk when tasting fresh broad beans from the garden. Most students haven’t tasted a broad bean before they tried one in the garden. While we were tasting, the students were able to respond with awe and wonderment noticing all the tiny aphids on the new growth of the broad beans. Lots of ladybirds were on the broad bean plants eating the tiny aphids. As we reflect on November's garden adventures, we look forward to the continued growth and learning that our garden program brings.

Happy Gardening!
