Principal's Message

As we approach the end of the 2023 school year, I reflect with immense pride on the incredible journey we've shared together. This year marks my first as the Principal at the College, and I am truly grateful for the warm welcome and support from our dedicated students, parents, and carers.

Our school year has been nothing short of extraordinary, filled with achievements, traditions, and moments that have defined us as a close-knit community. From the traditional whole-school march through our Totems during the smoking ceremony that marked the beginning of the year, to the heart-warming whole-school guard of honour bidding farewell to our Year 12 students, it has been a year of unity and shared joy.

In our collective focus on enhancing writing skills, I've had the pleasure of witnessing students' growth firsthand. Walking through classrooms, I've heard inspiring stories of progress and improvement. The commitment to our 2023 whole-school learning focus has fostered a culture of excellence that will undoubtedly continue into the new year.

Our Year 9 cohort celebrated their Coming of Age moment, a ceremony filled with pride and reflection. As they received badges and blazers, they shared profound answers to the important questions that mark this rite of passage. It's a transition from childhood to adulthood and from the Junior school to the Senior School, and we celebrate their achievements.

The stage came alive with the enchanting performance of Matilda Jnr, starring the immensely talented Scarlett Maguire. The musical was a resounding success, a testament to the dedication of our students, staff, and families. Three SOLD OUT evenings were a pure celebration of our students' artistic talents and showcased the vibrant spirit of our school community.

Our Rugby Academy Program continues to flourish, with Melton Secondary College recognized as the gold standard for sport academies. Year 11 student Angelina Tokanovic's leadership in the Rugby Academy was highlighted in the state government's Gender Equity Launch, a well-deserved recognition.

The physical space of our College has undergone significant upgrades, with the exterior of our original buildings receiving a beautiful paint job. Grassed spaces for student enjoyment have been introduced, and upcoming projects include courtyard and canteen upgrades. Excitingly, we have secured $8.8 million for a T-block upgrade and Rugby oval, marking the beginning of a whole-school Master Plan set to unfold in 2025.

As we conclude this remarkable year, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to each parent, carer, and member of our community. Your unwavering support and collaboration have been the driving force behind our successes. To our exceptional students, your achievements and dedication have made this year truly special.

Wishing you all a joyous holiday season filled with laughter, love, and relaxation. May the coming year bring continued success, growth, and moments of profound joy. Together, we look forward to shaping an even brighter future for Melton Secondary College.

With gratitude and warm regards,

Kath Sobey Principal, Melton Secondary College
