We would like to acknowledge and honour the Wurundjeri Woi-Wurrung people of the Kulin Nation as the traditional custodians of the land on which our school stands. We pay our respects to all First Nations elders, past present, and emerging.
Our 2024 Class Placement survey has now closed for parents and carers to offer additional information aimed to support our class placement process.
The class placement process we undertake at BNWPS is significant; we take more than six weeks to complete the task and consult with as many stakeholders as we can, which is motivated by belonging and community being such a high priority for our whole school. If we could wave a magic wand to multiply all our teachers, students and rooms to meet everyone’s wishes, it would certainly be tempting - though we might miss the unexpected new friendships and learning partnerships that emerge from different placements!
When creating classes, teachers consider class sizes, they balance genders, academic and social needs and keep in mind any separations or pairings that are important for the learning community. For this reason, in the absence of a magic wand, the school must triage the requests that come through the survey. We compare requests from parents and carers to the requests from students and the observations and recommendations from classroom teachers and find the best possible solution we can. It is rarely perfect, but we don’t stop until we are happy with the result. We also know there is much more to creating a community than just selecting people - great communities are about shared goals, respect and fun.
In line with our agreed Class creation process, we will be sharing our 2024 teaching teams with the community next week. This information will be shared here in the newsletter.
Towards the end of week 10, we will share 2024 class lists with families through Sentral, and on Dec 13th students will spend some time with their 2024 classmates and teacher in their 2024 classroom. We will do our best to let families of students with additional needs know about 2024 teachers and classes closer to the beginning of week 10.
Next Tuesday 21st November, we will be holding an online information session for parents and carers of students attending Camp Rumbug in Week 9. This information session is not compulsory, but will answer questions about the intention of school camp and some of the activities students can expect to experience while away.
The session will run 6-6:30pm online - a link will be shared with Middle School families next week.
On the 18th December (while most of the school is having their fun day!) we will be moving some furniture around to reconfigure classrooms from 2023 to 2024. We are asking for any members of our community who might be available to come along and help us move some furniture or boxes. If you are interested in helping out on this day, please contact Audrie (audrie.sextonmcguire@education.vic.gov.au)
BNW is delighted to welcome Minna to our school community. Minna has taken on the role of crossing supervisor at Jacob's Reserve, Melville Road. Minna has commented on how lovely our community is and how much effort our students have made to make her feel welcome. Please say a big hi when you're passing by and give her a big BNW welcome.
