We celebrated the many different cultures we have here at St John’s in a range of ways this year. We began with a Parade of Nations on Wednesday 7th November and followed this with a little bit of disco dancing on Thursday 9th November. We finished the week with a special whole school assembly on Friday. Throughout the week groups of students performed cultural dances. Scroll through the images below, to get a sense of the celebrations we had.
Parade Of Nations
On Wednesday 8th November we kicked off our Cultural Week celebrations with a Parade of Nations. We had over 16 different Nations represented in the Parade. Thanks to everyone for the time and effort that went into the outfits that the students wore. During the Parade I was reminded of the lyrics from that Seekers song “I am Australian”
We are one, but we are many
And from all the lands on earth we come
We share a dream and sing with one voice
"I am, you are, we are Australian"
Below is a snapshot of what we saw at the Parade of Nations:
Cultural Dances & Performances
Throughout Cultural Week we had many groups of students present cultural dances along with a traditional indigenous storytelling session. Thanks to Miss Grippi for working with these groups of students at lunchtimes over several weeks, to ensure the performers were well practised and the dances suitably choreographed.
We gathered as a school on Monday 13th November to hold our Remembrance Day Ceremony. This day is an opportunity for us to remember the sacrifices made by members of our armed forces, to ensure the peace and safety of others.
A group of Year 5 & 6 girls walked up to Tarneit Rise PS last Friday to compete in a Futsal competition. Futsal (indoor Soccer) is played between two teams of five players each, one of whom is the goalkeeper. We congratulate the girls for the positive way they approached this competition, enabling everyone to have a great day.
The Linewize platform helps schools, students and families to develop better digital habits, while also monitoring and tracking digital usages. With St John’s now working in partnership with Linewize, our parents have access to an Online Safety Parent Hub, via the school’s website. This Hub has a wealth of tips and information for families.
