Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

2023 Year 6 Graduates

On behalf of our school community, I'd like to wish our 2023 graduating class of students all the best in their new educational settings.

I look forward to hearing of their successes, achievements, adventures and tales as we continue to track them through their secondary years.

We are all very proud of you and are confident your grounding throughout your years at MRK-6 will hold you in good order for the challenges and experiences ahead of you in the future.

Transitions

Congratulations to students for successfully transitioning into their new classrooms yesterday, for half the day.

It was great to provide an opportunity for our students to sit inside their new classroom, with their new teacher for 2024, engaging with their peers and friends.

Thank you to our families, who have positively promoted the new beginnings, opportunities and relationships that present in this process.

Presentation

I'm looking forward to our school community gathering together tomorrow night to reflect on the year that was, celebrate student achievement, scholarship recipients and congratulate 2024 student leaders.  We will enjoy Christmas carols together and perhaps even a visit from a very important man in red!

Families are welcome to picnic on the Medwell Oval from 5:00 pm, weather permitting, and our Presentation Evening will commence at 6:00pm.

See you there!

Another Year of Learning concludes...

Congratulations to all students, families and staff for all that you have achieved throughout this year at school.

Thank you to our staff and families for your commitment to the growth and wellbeing of our students.

I wish you all a wonderful Christmas and festive season, full of fun, family and friends.

I can't wait to see you all refreshed and ready to go in 2024, from Thursday February 1st.

Departing Families

I'd like to extend a special mention to all our departing families also.  Thank you for your partnership, contributions and input to MRK-6.

We wish you all the best in your varying transitions to new settings.

Staffing

We farewell Brooke Jorgensen, Samuel Hill and Ben Mitchell. Brooke has been successfully appointed to a position at Delacombe Primary School, Mr Hill is heading to a teaching position at Mount Rowan Secondary College and Mr Mitchell has been appointed to a 12 month teaching position at Little Bendigo Primary School. We wish them all the very best as they pursue further opportunities in their career.

Next year, we welcome Shauna Muller and Jaymie Haire, teaching in the Millie Building, as members of the Year 1/2 team. We also welcome Troy Brown who will be our STEM Specialist teacher for 2024.

2024 Start of Year

Staff resume from Monday 29th January.

Assessment Days will be Tuesday 30 and Wednesday 31 January. On these days, students will attend their booked session for a one-on-one assessment with their classroom teacher. The assessment session is 30 minutes in duration. Booking information will be provided in today's newsletter (see School News page for more information).

Note: Foundation students do not attend each Wednesday for all of Term One.

Athletics Day 2024

Due to Athletics Day being held on the last day of Term One next year, we ask parents of students in Years 3-6 to kindly transport their children directly to Llanberris Recreation Reserve by 9:00am on Thursday, March 28th, 2024. This will assist the day to run efficiently with a 2:30pm finish time. Students in Foundation – Year 2 will go to school as usual and will be transported to Llanberris by bus for an 11:00am start. All students from F-6 will then be collected by parents/ guardians by 2:30pm from Llanberris. We are hoping that giving our families enough notice will assist in the coordination required for his whole school event.

On behalf of all of the staff at Miners Rest K-6, I would like to wish all of our families a happy, safe and relaxing break over the summer break. We thank our school community sincerely for the support, involvement and connection throughout 2023.

With best wishes,

Kylie Nissen.
