Grade 3 - 4
The Summit
Last Monday, the Grade 3 students had the amazing opportunity to go on a day camp at The Summit. Students were bursting with excitement, while others felt a bit nervous. The students arrived at The Summit and were placed into 6 groups - they contributed to 3 initiatives where they needed to show team collaboration to complete puzzles and activities. This was a great way for the students to settle within their groups. Soon after, we listened to important instructions and then…… we got to do the MONSTER COURSE!
The monster course was wet and muddy! Some students were mortified they had to get in the lake and touch the mud, but they all displayed Daring by being brave and eagerly getting straight into the group activities! Some of the activities included:
- filling up a large bucket (with holes!) using smaller buckets and water from the lake
- Linking arms and carrying a tyre around The Summit
- Playing charades
- Carrying planks together pass swinging balls (quite impressive skills)
- Going into murky water, under the ropes to get to the other side with their team
- Transporting tyres back and forth by pulling a sled back and forth through mud
- Sliding into a ball pit at the end!!
The students showed our school values of PROUD throughout The Summit and had a quick rest on the bus before stopping at Yarragon to visit a lolly shop. The students had fun choosing which lollies they wanted to enjoy, all while carefully adding the costs together to ensure they could afford it with their money.
Overall, it was a terrific day and we were very proud of our students!
Inquiry
The Grade 3 and 4’s have begun their inquiry unit which goes for a duration of two weeks. Our inquiry question is ‘What are the traditions and norms of a specific country's culture?’. This term in Humanities, students have been learning about how traditions, cultures, norms and customs creates a person's identity. The students have been placed in groups of 3-4 and assigned to one of the following countries: Netherlands, Austria, France, Italy, Belgium, Turkey, Switzerland, Germany and Czech Republic.
The students are enjoying the unit so far, eagerly researching general information, customs and norms, traditional celebrations, clothing, cuisine, dance and so much more. Students have collaborated with one another creating many crafty activities to go along with their research. The students are looking forward to presenting their research and creations to the Grade 1’s in an Inquiry visit.
