Supporting Christian Schooling

Tim Argall - Executive Principal

As a Christian school located in Donvale for almost 50 years, our school has its own tale to tell of how God has wonderfully provided for us over our entire history. Intricately linked to this tale are the narratives of growth and Christian faith formation that each of our families has.

Continually testified to during new family enrolment interviews, our current families' “word-of-mouth” telling of these stories has built and expanded the community of believers that is currently the DCC school community.

The following text is from the Australian Association of Christian Schools, the peak political advocacy organisation to which we belong.

Please consider their request for supporting a very worthwhile initiative, introduced fully early this year. It's  part of building our presence further in the political debate at both State and Federal level. And if you have already signed up and contributed – thank you so much.

Christian schools are different.

Our students go into the world with Christian hope in their hearts. A new generation of Aussies who love to volunteer, to serve their communities and to build strong families.

At the heart of this difference is the living Christian faith of teachers and staff. People whose lives model the grace and love of Christ. However, proposals from the Australian Law Reform Commission threaten to change this. Hiring a teacher or staff member at a Christian school because they are actually a Christian may soon be seen as discrimination.

My Christian School is for Australians who believe in this difference.

Together, we can preserve this precious difference for future generations.

Christian Schooling Publications

As a further means of supporting Christian education and educators, Donvale Christian College, as a Christian Education National school, has access for its families and staff to two publications produced by CEN’s National Office.

Nurture is a parenting magazine specifically designed to support parents in parent-governed Christian schools like ours. I am part of the editorial committee for this magazine; in the December 2023 edition, Jo Hood (DCC Board member and current parent), Viv Stapleton (Director of Christian Foundations) and Tanya Vaughan (Head of Primary) have each contributed articles that add great wisdom to the edition (the magazine has been going since the mid-1980s) – I am very thankful for their willingness to build into the wider Christian schooling and parenting discourse. This magazine is issued to Primary school families and spare copies are available at the Reception in Building A.

Christian Teachers Journal is a magazine with scholarly articles, directed at enhancing the professional reading of CEN’s teachers. Ben Chenoweth (Secondary Maths and Science) is our most recently published staff member (in this journal). Over the 20 or so years of the magazine’s publication, Donvale has been a regular provider, through its staff, of articles that provide rich insights into the practices of teachers in Christian schools.
