Dear families,

We are at the end of week 6 and can't believe how time is flying. They are all ready for the long weekend. Here is what is going on.

UPCOMING LEARNING:

LITERACY:

In the next block of learning in our Little Learners Love Literacy program, students will be learning the ‘igh’ sound.

In our writing block, students continue to explore and develop their knowledge about Australia and the animals that are native to our country as we prebuild their knowledge prior to the Moonlit Sanctuary. Students will be exploring the life cycle of animals, developing animal fact files and the various animals seen at the Moonlit Sanctuary.

NUMERACY:

Students will continue to develop and consolidate their knowledge of the base ten place value system by partitioning tens and ones. A key focus of this topic is in linking concrete materials with symbolic representation of partitioning, which is a necessary link to the idea of addition and subtraction. Students will be supported in this skill by using ten-frames, number bonds, discrete bar models and base ten blocks.

INQUIRY:

In Inquiry, we will continue to dive further into our topic ‘Celebrating Differences’. The students will learn more about different cultures through food, games, music and traditions of different cultures. The purpose of this is that we are more likely to be fair when we understand and value the similarities and differences between cultures and generations.

WELLBEING:

The students will begin to work on their ‘Ready to Learn Plans’ which is a pre-arranged deal between student and teacher to provide students with de-escalation and self-regulating strategies. Ready to Learn plans will help students to become present, centered and ready to learn.

SPECIALISTS:

Students have enjoyed getting back into their specialist's classes with some enjoying Food Tech as a new one this year. Make sure you ask your children all about their school day so they can share the exciting things they have done each day.

Home Reading:

Just a reminder that we are encouraging Grade 1 students to make reading a nightly routine. You can help support your child with their reading at home using our online Little Learners platform, where students have been allocated books at their appropriate level. As previously mentioned, we also have hard copies of books if your child prefers to read using a hard copy. The below image shows the impact reading can have on a child’s learning and growth of a course of a year.

REMINDERS:

· Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.

· Library days: 1A - Tuesday, 1B - Thursday, 1C – Thursday, 1D – Thursday, 1E - Wednesday. Please ensure your child's satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home. (The specialist timetable for each class can be seen below.)

· Term 1 - students are required to wear hats during play time.

Moonlit Sanctuary Information Reminder:

Dear families,

We are all getting very excited for our wonderful excursion to Moonlit Sanctuary on Wednesday 12th March! We will be leaving at 9:30am and returning at 2:30pm.

Here is some information about our exciting day:

Clothing: All students are expected to wear full school uniform and close-toed shoes (gumboots allowed) no sandals or slip on shoes please. If the weather is not looking great, please have raincoats and warm clothing also (all clearly named). Umbrellas cannot be taken on the excursion.

Lunches: Please place your child's snack, fruit, lunch and drink bottle in a clearly labelled small bag. These will be placed into a class tub. We will have scheduled time to eat so please ensure all containers are named and nude food where possible. All children must have a named refillable water bottle (no juice/cordial). We will not be taking school bags on the excursion. (They are too big and heavy).

At Skye Primary School we know that every school day counts!

When students attend school consistently, they stay engaged in learning, build strong friendships, and develop positive routines that set them up for future success.

Missing just a few days here and there may not seem like much, but over time, it adds up and can make it harder for children to keep up with their learning and feel connected to their peers. Of course, we understand that sometimes absences are unavoidable due to illness, but wherever possible, we encourage families to prioritize consistent attendance.
