Dear Skye Families,
Welcome to the Week 6 Newsletter!
The nomination and election process for School Council has been completed. As the number of nominees matched the number of vacancies, there was no need for an election.
Congratulations to the new and returning members of our School Council! This diverse group brings a wealth of experience and insight that will undoubtedly contribute to the effective governance and ongoing improvement of our school. I’m pleased to welcome Emily Barker, Samantha Gentle, Ruth Gill, Kate Yorke and Gareth Snow (DET) to the council for the first time. Chantelle Richards, Amanda Harris, Nicolette Bisbellis, Helen Johnston, Kelly Mudge, Helen Hammil (DET), Julieanne Brooks (DET) and Kim Weissenburger (DET) existing members whose terms are continuing or who have been renominated. We are incredibly grateful for their dedication to serving our community.
Best wishes to our Year 3 and 5 students as they prepare for the upcoming NAPLAN assessments. The schedule is set, and we are confident in our students' ability to perform to their best. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher. For more detailed information about NAPLAN, including the schedule, please visit the 'Curriculum' page on our website.
It has been wonderful to see so many students demonstrating responsibility for their learning in recent weeks. Classes have been focusing on their entrance routines to ensure the day begins in a calm and productive manner. After being greeted at the door by their teacher, students have been doing a marvellous job of putting their belongings away and quietly starting their independent tasks before the morning circle begins.
Additionally, we’ve seen an overwhelming number of students taking responsibility for keeping our school grounds clean and litter-free. Led by our Eco Warrior Head Honcho, Mrs. Weiss, students have been enthusiastically collecting 'Clean Up Australia' bags and gloves, proudly marching across the school to tidy up. A huge well done to all involved!
We recently hosted our first school tour for 2026 enrolments, and it was a pleasure to showcase our vibrant learning community. It was wonderful to visit classrooms and see students working so productively. The school looked fantastic, and I took great pride in sharing the many strengths of our community. The first six tours have already been booked out, which is a testament to the growing demand for enrolments at our school. Future bookings are available via our school website.
Our parent car park is a busy spot during drop-off and pick-up times. While we understand the frustrations that traffic can create, it is imperative that all members of our community behave with respect and integrity at all times.
Staff are allocated to the car park in the afternoons to ensure it runs as smoothly as possible and that children are collected safely. They do a fantastic job and always have the best interests of our students at heart. Please ensure they are treated with the respect they deserve.
The School Student Broadband Initiative offers eligible families with school-aged students free NBN broadband internet at home. Originally set to end on 31 December 2025, the initiative has now been extended.
Key details:
For families who haven’t yet been assessed, please contact the NBN’s National Referral Centre for an assessment. If eligible, you will receive a voucher to access free home internet until 30 June 2028. However, this must be activated before the 30,000 cap is reached.
Have a great long weekend!
Warm regards,
Tim
