Connect: Year 2

Hello Grade 2 Families,
WOW, how time has flown?! Can you believe there are only FOUR weeks left of Term 1?!
We have sent home student log in cards (both Little Learners Online platform and Mathletics) to those who had their satchels at school. If your child does not have their Password Bookmark, please ensure their blue satchel is in their bag so we can send this home ASAP.
Little Learners Online Platform
As this is the first time using the platform, please let us know how you go with finding and viewing the texts. We have assigned appropriate 'stages' to your child based on recent assessment. They are able to choose from any of the texts that appear. If you would prefer for your child to have a physical book, please just send an email and we will arrange that for you. Please note, physical books will only be sent home if your child has their satchel.

REMINDERS:
- Learning starts promptly in the morning. Please remember to take/remind your child to use the toilet before the 8.45am bell so nothing important is missed.
- Library days: 2A - Tuesday, 2B - Wednesday, 2C - Wednesday. Please ensure your child's satchel and/or library bag is packed or they will not be able to borrow for home. (The specialist timetable for each class can be seen below.)
- We are noticing a number of students are requiring ongoing support to tie their shoelaces and this is becoming a big distraction in the classroom. Here is a handy video they can watch to practise - EASIEST shoe tying trick ever
UPCOMING LEARNING
Literacy
- In Phonics we will be looking at the sounds 'ce/ci/cy' as in space city racing, 'ge/gi/gy' as in ginger cat allergy. We will then be looking at words containing 'i-e' as in five strikes and 'i' as in find a giant.
- In Reading we will continue to explore rich literature in our mentor text with another Julia Donaldson text, The Ugly Five. We will be building background knowledge (also known as schema) around habitats and climate zones, Africa, desserts and the different groups of animals found, including the 'Ugly Five.'
- In Writing we will be looking at common and proper nouns, using conjunctions and expanding sentences, identifying and defining adjectives and editing.
Numeracy
- We will continue to revise and expand students' place value knowledge by creating and drawing a range of two and three-digit numbers. Students will use their growing knowledge of digit value to identify numbers on a number chart as well as expanding these numbers.
- Students will also continue to create questions and collect data from their classmates and graph their responses.
Wellbeing
- Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships - identifying emotions and triggers
- Setting up our Ready to Learn scales and plans.
Inquiry
- Developing timelines from Birth-2, 2-Now and Future
- Exploring signs of danger
- Habits of Mind- Taking Responsible Risks & Monitoring Thinking (Metacognition)
