Literacy
We have introduced and engaged students in literacy games designed to reinforce the letters and sounds we have covered to date. Each day, students practice sounding out, reading, and writing words such as "pit," "am," "cap," and "map." Additionally, students are revisiting and reinforcing our heart words, ‘the,’ ‘my,’ and ‘I.’ Below is a summary of the letters and sounds we have learned so far, as well as those we will be exploring in the future.
Letters/words covered so far: | Future letters/words |
Mm, Ss, Ff, Aa, Pp, Cc, Ii | Bb, Hh |
I, the, The, My, my |
Maths
In Mathematics, we are concentrating on Number and Place Value. Students will use concrete objects to represent numbers from 0 to 5, helping them build a strong understanding of part-part-whole relationships for these numbers. Students will be developing a stronger understanding of the vocabulary ‘more than’ and ‘equal/same as’. We will have a focus on writing the numbers 0-5.
Reminders
Fruit Snack
Satchels
Children have their Boomerang books in their satchel. These contain a grid that can be practised daily. Please return the Satchel to school each day.
Library
Please send a named bag with your child on their library day so they can bring a book home to enjoy. Students have received a red material bag from their teacher which would make a great library bag!
Library Times:
Prep C Monday
Prep D & E Tuesday
Prep A & B Wednesday
Shoelaces
We have noticed there are many children who come to school with laces. If they can't tie their laces, it is recommended they have velcro shoes. Here is a video to assist with learning to tie laces.

Independence
Starting formal schooling provides an excellent opportunity to encourage your children to make their own choices and operate independently within the school community. If you are finding you still need to assist your child entering the classroom we encourage you to let your child know you will be saying goodbye to them at the door. Students settle very quickly into the morning routine, however, when the class is crowded with parents it can make the start of your child’s day unsettled. We have been impressed to see so many children walking into the classroom independently.
Tips: Talk to your child the night before and have a plan eg; one hug, one goodbye and let your child know you will say goodbye at the door. Most importantly, stick to the plan. Please be assured that your child does settle quickly otherwise we would let you know.
Toileting Before School
Please remind your child to use the toilet before school so that their learning is not interrupted in the morning session.
Spare Clothes
Please ensure your child has a change of clothes, including socks, in their bag.
Teddy Bear Picnic
The children thoroughly enjoyed our short walk to Emily Reserve to have our Teddy Bear Picnic. They particularly enjoyed the independence of leaving the school on their first excursion. They practiced listening to their teachers, especially when crossing roads and staying within designated boundaries. We are proud of their efforts as they learn to navigate the expectations of following instructions.
