What is Lent ?

As we continue our journey through this Liturgical Season of Lent, it is timely to ask ourselves once again ….  How are we refocusing our minds and hearts on how we live out our faith on a daily basis? What are we doing during this time to deepen our relationship with our God?

If you haven’t had a chance yet, here is a great little YouTube explanation of Lent:

A reminder that Lent is a time of prayer, fasting and almsgiving.

Through Prayer, we come closer to God

Fasting reminds us of those that are less fortunate than ourselves, people who often have no choice but to go without the basic human needs.

Almsgiving is a sign of our commitment to justice and our thanks for all that God has given us.

Project Compassion 2025: ‘Unite against poverty’

Watch this short video to see how Project Compassion funds are being used to support communities around the world. This year, we hear stories from Samoa, Vietnam and the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

Remember: That by supporting Caritas and placing money in a Project Compassion box you will be helping those who are less fortunate than us. As well as in classrooms, these are also located in the Church foyer.

Alternatively, you can donate directly through the Caritas website. The link can be found here

Project Compassion Lenten prayer. (You might like to pray this Prayer as a family during this Lenten season)

God of our journey,

We are all pilgrims of hope brought together by your love and your wish that we may all be one.

We pray that in this year of Jubilee, when we are called to greater justice and care for our greater home, that we may unite against poverty.

May we work in unity for the freedom of the oppressed and the renewal of creation.

May our compassionate minds and generous hearts help bring about a world where all can live in peace.

May our Lenten pilgrimage of fasting, almsgiving and prayer bring us closer to your loving heart.

We ask this in the name of Jesus.

Amen

KWL Books - Religion

Your child has a Religious Education textbook in their classroom called ‘To Know worship and love’. (KWL)

We are encouraging each student to take this book home during Lent and to pray the prayer suggested for Lent. You might like to set up a special little Prayer space to gather around to say this prayer. Two minutes beautifully spent as a family together !!!

Take a photo and share it with us !!!
