Sydney Catholic Schools Parent Charter

The intention of this Charter is to outline the principles and expectations that underpin the relationship between parents and schools as we work together to build school communities based on our enduring values of faith, hope and love.

The Charter makes recommendations related to how parents and teachers can work together to support every child’s educational journey in a faith-filled environment.

Parents will:

• adhere to and maintain all commitments made at the time of enrolment throughout their  child’s schooling

• always treat every member of the community with courtesy and respect

• use positive language about the school, staff, subjects, learning and rules, with their child

• ensure their child completes all assigned homework, study and assessments

• ensure their child attends school each day

• respect the personal and online privacy of every member of the school community

• support the school’s behavioural expectations

• not engage in intimidation, violence, bullying, or harassment of any staff, student or other parents

• disclose all information required by the school

• ensure the prompt payment of school fees

• reasonably consider the perspectives of the school, other students and other parents

• honour requests to meet with the school in person to create plans and resolve any issues, misunderstandings or concerns

• support their child’s participation in the liturgical and faith life of the school, including the Religious Education curriculum

Teachers are the first point of contact:

To discuss your child’s learning or experiences at school, or to raise a concern, parents are asked first to contact the appropriate class or pastoral teacher.

If the appropriate teacher cannot resolve the issue or concern, please follow the SCS Resolution of Complaints Policy and the local school process for managing concerns next to the relevant year/subject coordinator (where applicable) before escalating the matter to the school leadership team if it has still not been resolved.

NAPLAN 2025

Students in Years 3 and 5 will continue to participate in the Naplan online tests during Week 7. The online testing period will conclude on Friday, 21st March. The NAPLAN tests are designed to provide a summative, nationally comparable understanding of student performance in writing, reading, conventions of language and numeracy.

All students will require a set of working headphones for test participation. (not Bluetooth)

Harmony Day

On Friday, March 21st 2025, our school will come together to celebrate Harmony Day, a day dedicated to celebrating cultural diversity and promoting inclusion and respect for everyone.

This year, we encourage all students to show their support by wearing orange, the official colour of Harmony Day, as a symbol of unity and togetherness.

Throughout the day, students will participate in activities in their classes that highlight the importance of cultural diversity and foster understanding and respect among all.

Student Attendance

School attendance plays a role in enhancing the lives of students in schools. Every day of attendance adds to a student’s academic achievement and conversely every absence, can impact their learning and progress.

It is important that students are punctual to school each day and you are not picking up your child and leaving early on a regular basis.

Parents and Carers are required to:

•Ensure that their child attends school each day unless absent for an approved reason

•Explain the absence of a student within 7 days, otherwise, the school will record this absence as an unexplained absence

•Provide a medical certificate for recurring or long-term absence

•Apply in advance for planned student leave

Sabbath Week

No Homework next week for Sabbath Week

Car Lines and Parking

Parents are asked to remind their child/children not to walk between cars when exiting their car on carlines due to the safety risks. Students are to use the pedestrian crossing supervised by teachers.  Please refrain from opening car boots automatically with cars stopping closely behind. It is so DANGEROUS! Students are encouraged to have their school bag in the vehicle.

Parents are asked NOT to park in the Medical Centre car park to pick up their child/ren.

Parents are also asked NOT to park in the staff car park or office administration car park unless they are visiting the office or picking up a child from sick bay.
