Vermont Secondary College
What a lovely start to the term for Year 10! We are so proud of how you have engaged with your new classes and teachers as well as college activities like sports and the swimming carnival!
We have the Athletics Carnival on Friday the 7th of March! We urge everyone to try their best, participate and put their best athletic foot forward to gain their house some points towards the house cup!
We would like to also remind students to keep their uniform within the requirements of the school policy. Students who are taking physical or leisure education classes are reminded they are to change before class into their P.E uniform and then change back into their standard school uniform. Students are not to arrive or go home in it. We appreciate your cooperation!
We hope you enjoy your long weekend!

On Tuesday the 18th of February, three Year 10 Psychology classes went to Melbourne Zoo for an exciting look at the animals with links to their classwork.
Back at school, students had recently finished their studies into the scientific method, and following the excursion were set to embark on their own group-experiment on a psychological phenomenon of their choice.
The workshop was structured in a way to build on the previous learnings of the students in class and then serves as an opportunity to reflect on back at school. Might I add, our students were so well behaved and switched on, they understood everything (even though its typically meant for VCE students!!!).
The excursion to Melbourne Zoo gave the year 10 Psychology students an opportunity to expand and work on the knowledge gained in class. The talks with zoo members were insightful and allowed us to use animals to learn about the ethical guidelines followed by large corporations such as the zoo. The different enclosures allowed us to learn what different behaviours suggested and how animals are able to consent and withdraw in certain situations.
Psychology students were asked to create a hypothesis based on level of movement of gorillas in captivity vs the wild. By studying the behaviours of these animals, we learnt how to apply this into quantitative and qualitive data to create an informed conclusion.
Overall, this excursion was a great experience which has helped us psychology students to produce a better experiment in our current assessment task. Mia B. – Year 10 Psychology Student
Thank you to the wonderful Melbourne Zoo education staff who are ex-teachers themselves, and thank you to Miss Muhtaseb, Miss Paydon and Miriam for your support on the day! Watch this space for more exciting psychology-based hands-on learning opportunities!
Hey Vermont community! Are you interested in getting a professional website for FREE? The Year 10 Multimedia class is offering to create custom websites for those who need one. As part of their coursework, students will design and build a sleek, functional website tailored to your needs.
It’s a great opportunity to get an amazing online presence without spending a penny, while also supporting students in their learning process.
If you're interested, feel free to get in touch and we can discuss how you can be part of this exciting project! Email me at, huong.le@education.vic.gov.au
