Congratulations to team Vermont for a stellar day out at Oakleigh Recreation Centre. The sun was shining, as were our stars in the pool. There was plenty to smile about with many individual successes as well as team success in relay events, and as a squad with Vermont being awarded overall winners of the day.
A very special thanks to all students for their participation on the day, particularly to those filling in gaps for many events, and to the emergencies who were the most fantastic support crew!
Grand aggregate shield 1st place with 847 points, edging out Mount Waverley who finished the day in 2nd place with 837 points.
Senior shield 1st place with 364 points
Intermediate shield 2nd place with 253 points
Junior shield 1st place with 230 points

Baseball
The senior boy's baseball team had a competitive day out. Unfortunately, the team wasn’t successful into progressing through to the EMR finals, however plenty of good times were had on the diamond!
Softball
Our Senior softball team had a great day of competition. Every player in the team made successful contributions throughout the day, and the girls continued to learn and develop as the games went on. In our first game against Mount Waverley, the highlight has to be the double play made by Tess to make a great catch in leftfield and then throw out the runner at second base. Whilst this was a highly competitive game, unfortunately our bats didn’t quite get going the way they were capable of, and we went down to a strong Mount Waverley team. In our second match against Highvale, the bats well and truly came to life. Great team batting and base running saw us winning this game as we were able to pile on the runs. Highlights included 2 powerful line drives from Amara scoring multiple runs each time, and 2 impressive home runs from Caitlin – the second was so big she had time to cartwheel her way between 3rd and home.
Most impressive about this team was their team spirit and support of each other. Congratulations on a great day of softball everyone!
Volleyball
The girls A and B teams had a really great day out, with each team coming away with a win against Glen Waverley and taking sets off Highvale but ultimately Mount Waverley were too strong, not dropping a set all day. It was wonderful to watch the players improve over the course of the day and I hope to see the year 11 players back again next year. Thanks for playing girls!
Both the boys A and B team represented Vermont brilliantly. The A team started out by easily outclassing Mount Waverley, however the next two games were always going to be the true test. In what was one of the highest quality games of senior volleyball at this level, our boys took it right up to the eventual winners for the day, Highvale. We may have gone down in straight sets, but after losing the first set after a sudden death tie-break point 18-17, we were unable to take the second set, eventually going down 15-13. Unfortunately for the boys, they enjoyed lunch far too much and came out sluggish in their final match against Glen Waverley. Caught on the backfoot early, we couldn’t make a comeback.
The B team made it all the way to the final after comprehensive victories over both Highvale and Mount Waverley. Glen Waverley has a classy B team, and they absolutely destroyed us in the first match. However, the boys regrouped and performed much better in the rematch. After winning a combined 11 points across two sets in the first match, we went down 15-13 and 15-12 in the final.
Proud of the efforts of all involved. You played hard, smiled a lot and represented your school brilliantly. Thank you.
Tennis
The spirits were high from the Senior Boys Tennis team for much of the day as they battled through matches against Glen Waverley, Mt Waverley and Highvale. With our closest game occurring against Mt Waverley where a couple of sets were pinched, two things were clearly evident; Aden was our ‘player of the day’ and we should have practised our serving a little more! A nice day of competition for Aden, Tom, Sam and Austin.
Senior Boys Cricket
A beautiful summer day greeted the senior boys cricket team on Friday the 14th. Starting the day with a game against Highvale. A 50* from Lucas H started the day off strongly, with 113 runs on the board after the 15 overs. However, some inconsistent bowling led to Highvale making the required runs with 10 balls to go.
The second game against Mount Waverley had some fantastic VSC performances. The comradery between the boys was evident with plenty of the chatter in the field. Benny L set the tone, with a rapid 3/24 from his three-over spell. Some fantastic fielding, including a screamer of a catch in the gully from Mihir D and three catches to Lucas H had Mount Waverley out for 116.
The run chase was rapid, with Max S making an unbeaten 50* from 31 balls, with contributions from Oli W, Ben L & Paras D. VSC chased down the required 116 runs with 17 balls remaining.
Well done to the boys on the day, in particular Lucas H for captaining the side.
Senior Girls Cricket
The Senior Girls cricket team had a fantastic round robin tournament at Lum Reserve and deservingly progress through to the region finals. The nine girls who presented the college did so proudly and showcased fine batting, bowling and fielding skills. After a comfortable victory against Highvale the girls were tested against Mt Waverley before a thrilling tie against Glen Waverley!!
Well done on a fantastic day and good luck in the region finals!!
