World Understanding Autism Day

Our Aspect Classes at OLF

Here at Our Lady of Fatima, our Maadagang and Buru Classes have kicked off the new school year with excitement and energy!  We have had a positive and engaging start to the year and have especially enjoyed integrating with our host school for sports lessons, developing our soccer and teamwork skills over the last few weeks.

The Buru class has been busy getting to know each other and our local area with a community walk. This gives us a chance to explore our surroundings, interact with shops and businesses in the community, and engage in hands-on learning about our environment.

Over in Maadagang class, we have been working on self-portraits and coding with Scratch Jr.

Stay tuned—this year is shaping up to be an amazing adventure! 🚀

Let’s Celebrate World Autism Understanding Day!

Buru Class and Maadagang Class are proud to be part of Aspect (Autism Spectrum Australia) and OLF’s Satellite Program. This year, we’re gearing up for a special celebration on April 2, 2025: World Autism Understanding Day! World Autism Understanding Day is our chance to come together as a school community and grow our understanding of autism and the amazing diversity of Autistic people!

Autism is a neurodevelopmental condition that shapes how a person experiences the world. No two Autistic people are the same — everyone has unique strengths, challenges, and ways of thinking. While autism is more commonly diagnosed in boys, it can be found in people of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds.

But this day is about more than just awareness. It’s about moving beyond awareness and acceptance to a true understanding of autism. That means:

✨ Recognising autism as a natural part of human diversity

🗣 Listening to autistic voices

💡 Valuing strengths

🤝 Promoting inclusion

Want to help make the world more autism-friendly? Here’s how you can make a difference:🎉 Celebrate neurodiversity – Embrace the unique talents in your community!

👂Focus on the person – Take the time to listen and learn from autistic voices.

💛 Encourage inclusivity – Invite autistic people to join in activities and feel welcomed.

❤️ Emotions matter – Treat everyone with dignity and respect—always.

💛 Think all things GOLD on April 2nd! – Why gold? The chemical symbol for gold is AU, just like Autism. Autistic people see themselves as rare and valuable—just like gold!
