Art Students Take on NGV: A Day of Inspiration and Creativity!
This week the Year 8/9 Sculpture class and the Year 11 Art Making and Exhibiting class embarked on an exciting excursion to the National Gallery of Victoria (NGV) for a day immersed in artistic excellence. The students had the incredible opportunity to explore both the Top Arts exhibition and the dazzling world of Yayoi Kusama, making it an unforgettable experience filled with inspiration and creativity.
The day began with a visit to the prestigious Top Arts exhibition, showcasing the best works from Victoria’s top Year 12 students. Our students were in awe of the level of technical skill, innovative concepts, and diverse mediums used by the exhibiting artists. Seeing the dedication and effort put into these artworks gave our young creatives a taste of what’s possible with passion and perseverance. Many students left feeling motivated to push their own artistic boundaries and start thinking about their future projects in new and exciting ways.
Next came the highlight of the trip – the Yayoi Kusama exhibition, a mesmerising journey into the mind of one of the world’s most celebrated contemporary artists. From the immersive infinity rooms to Kusama’s iconic polka dots and pumpkin sculptures, the students were completely captivated. The interactive nature of the exhibition, combined with Kusama’s bold use of colour and repetition, made it a truly engaging and inspiring experience.
The excitement and discussions on the train ride back were filled with newfound ideas and artistic enthusiasm. This experience not only deepened the students' appreciation for art but also reinforced the importance of seeing art in person, where its impact can truly be felt.
A huge thank you to our teachers and support staff for assisting in the organisation such an inspiring day and to the NGV for curating such phenomenal exhibitions. We can’t wait for our next artistic adventure!
