Reflection on the GRIP Leadership Conference

By Cathy Cai (Burrimul House Captain)

On Wednesday the 5th of March I had the opportunity to experience a once in a lifetime opportunity, I got to go to the GRIP conference held at the Melbourne Exhibition and Convention Centre. The GRIP leadership conference teaches us leaders how to better lead and improve our school, it teaches us leaders how to view situations and how to solve problems.

Attending the GRIP Leadership Conference was an enriching and inspiring experience that expanded my leadership knowledge. Throughout the day, I participated in interactive workshops, listened to motivational speakers, and networked with other student leaders who shared the same goals.

One of the most important things I learned during the conference is leading with authenticity and integrity. The speakers shared with me that real leadership has nothing to do with power or being famous but leaving a good difference by serving others. That made an impression on me because I realized that it does not need to be great to make huge differences to those around me.

Another feature of the conference was the actionable steps provided to put ideas into practice. I acquired the skills of setting accurate goals, effective communication, and collaboration with my co-workers to start projects. The activities stretched my comfort zone and challenged me to think out of the box to come up with creative solutions to common issues in my school community.

What impressed me the most was the passion and energy of all the participants. To see so many young leaders willing to make a difference was really inspiring. The conference not only taught me useful leadership skills but also reaffirmed my confidence in my potential to make a positive impact in my school and beyond.

Overall, the GRIP Leadership Conference was an eye-opening experience that left a lasting impact on me. I am more confident in taking on leadership roles and am keen to apply what I have learned to create positive change in my community.
