Principal's Message

Mr Adam Beilken

It is hard to believe that we are over halfway through the term already. Students have been busy in classrooms and Emus have been preparing for the first assembly of the year which will be this Friday, 14 March.

NAPLAN Testing

NAPLAN testing started today with students in Years 3 and 5 taking part in the Writing assessment. Over the next week, students in these years will complete 3 other tests: Reading, Language Conventions and Numeracy. These tests provide the school with information on where the students are achieving against national standards and helps guide the school with curriculum planning. The testing results from these tests are usually available in Term 3 and families will receive a NAPLAN report for their child.

P & C

At the last P & C meeting all positions were declared vacant and unfortunately the P & C received no new nominations for the positions. These positions are President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. The decision was made at the last meeting to recall the AGM to Monday, 24 March in the school staff room at 6.30pm to get nominations for the positions that are available.

The P & C provide a vital service to the school community. If no nominations are received, the P & C will be forced to close and services such as the canteen, discos, fun runs and Mother’s and Father’s Day stalls will not operate. If you are interested in finding out more information or contributing to the Marangaroo P & C, I encourage you to attend the meeting on 24 March.

PBS Launch and Open Evening

I would like to thank the school community for supporting the open evening and the official launch of the PBS at Marangaroo Primary School on Friday 21 February. It was great seeing the community get involved with the bubbles, foam cannon and face painting. The mascot, “Rory the Lion’ was officially unveiled, and I would like to thank Avner Caro for his designs. I would also like to thank Mrs Leeanne Ward and Mrs Sacha Middleton for their work with the behaviour and wellbeing committee and for organising the PBS launch.

School Board

The School Board met this week and the process for filling positions on the school board was discussed. I would like to announce that at the meeting, Catherine Smith was nominated and elected as the School Board chair for 2025. I would like to thank Catherine for taking on this role and look forward to working with you and the board this year. I would also like to announce that Alyssa Taylor nominated and was accepted onto the school board for a 2-year term. Congratulations Alyssa.

Harmony Day

Next Friday, the school will be conducting activities in recognition of Harmony Day. Mrs Rogers has been busy organising the day and has planned a community picnic to help celebrate the day. Students will take their lunch play slightly earlier next Friday to allow the picnic to start at 1.00pm. Families are encouraged to bring food to the picnic from their culture. This food will not be shared amongst the wider community but will be for your family. It is intended that the picnic will conclude at 1.30pm.

Staff Carpark

I have noticed in the morning and afternoon that families are using the staff carpark and as a thoroughfare to move around the school. This is dangerous as children and families are walking through the carpark as cars are arriving and leaving. Please do not use the carpark to walkthrough and use the paths around the school.

I would also like to alert the community that repair works for the carpark are scheduled to occur in the upcoming school holidays. I held a pre-start meeting with the contractor and the carpark with have temporary fencing installed on the weekend of April 11. Works will continue throughout the holiday period and the carpark is scheduled to remain closed throughout the first week of Term 2.
