Celebrating Easter: A Time for Reflection and Joy
Easter is one of the most important holidays for Christians around the world, a time to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. For many, it marks the culmination of a season of reflection, beginning with Lent, and leads to a joyous celebration of God's love and grace.
At the heart of Easter is the message of hope. Christians believe that through Jesus' death and resurrection, humanity was offered forgiveness and the promise of eternal life. This powerful message is central to the Christian faith and is a reminder of God’s unwavering love for His creation.
As we celebrate Easter, it’s important to remember the true meaning behind the holiday. It is not just about Easter eggs and chocolates but about reflecting on Jesus' sacrifice and resurrection. The Bible speaks about the significance of this moment in several verses, such as:
- “He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.” – Matthew 28:6
- “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” – John 3:16
- “But the angel said to the women, ‘Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said.’” – Matthew 28:5-6
These verses remind us of the miracle of Easter—the resurrection that gives Christians the assurance of new life in Christ. It is a celebration of renewal and hope, inviting us to live with faith and gratitude for the love that was shown through Jesus' sacrifice.
As we enjoy the festivities of Easter, let us take a moment to reflect on its true meaning and share the message of love, forgiveness, and hope with those around us. Happy Easter and happy holidays! See you in Term Two on Wednesday 23 April.
God bless,
James Kumnick, Head of Secondary

Year 9 Medieval Day
Hear ye, hear ye! Verily, the 12th of March was a most splendid day as Knights, Lords and Ladies, serfs and monks from Year 8 (and a few infested rats thrown in for good measure) celebrated Medieval Day, one of the highlights of the year for this noble College!
Much merriment was made on the oval as students valiantly fought an armoured knight, and apprenticed themselves as archers. Workshops were held in which students got to sport real armour and feel the weight of weaponry. Fortunately no ears were sliced off in the process.
The day ended with the historically accurate moving picture, The Princess Bride! Sir Johnston, Sir Kanadi and Friar Hingley verily thank the students for their participation, enthusiasm and valour!

Agriculture News
After a long, dry summer the Agriculture space is beginning to look lively again. Garden beds have been weeded and new seedlings are poking their heads out. We are also seeing a group of brand-new Year 7s socialise with our animals, great and small. This year, there will be exciting additions to our program, so watch this space!
The Years 9 and 10 Agriculture class have also been working in the North Campus grow-out area weeding, fixing all sorts of things and preparing garden beds the area for upcoming planting. They’re also getting the opportunity to spend time with our animals.
VET Agriculture
Our VET students have been building a new storage facility in the North Campus grow out area with the guidance of Scott Pinxt and Justin Mason. The students are learning valuable construction skills whilst serving their school community. David Goschnick is doing a wonderful job running this amazing program.

VM Moonlit Sanctuary Working Sessions
We are blessed to have such a wonderful community partner in the Moonlit Sanctuary. Our students have removed sticks and branches from the very dry wetland area and the Wallaby Walk area. We also mulched new planting zones and have been able to spend time with the animals at the sanctuary. A massive thankyou goes to Geoff Small from Moonlit for running these sessions.
VM Café
The amazing Mrs. Ulli Austermann has been running the VM Café each week in the North Campus trade skills centre. Detroit (point of sale), Hendricus (food serving) and Liam (Barista) are doing a wonderful job gaining skills and serving their teachers and peers in the Café. A massive thanks goes to Ulli for shopping and cooking every week for the Café.

VM Campground Planning
Years 11 and 12 VM students have begun planning how to best utilise and expand the North Campus Campground area. Justin Mason helped the students to set up this space in 2024 and James Siede will continue working with the students to then run sessions for primary students.

Peninsula City Church
Our Year 11 students did an awesome job helping prepare for the community dinner held in March. They worked in teams setting up the place settings and cutting up and preparing the roast potatoes. Thanks to Lara Waldron at Peninsula City Church for giving our students this wonderful opportunity to serve their local community.

SIS Year 10 Girls Volleyball
Bayside’s Year 10 Girls Volleyball team played their first game for the season on Friday the 14th of February. Playing against strong competition, Bayside won the match 5 sets to 0 by the scores of 25-14, 25-17, 25-15, 25-0 (Not a typo), 25-20.
In what was genuinely one of the most consistent all around team efforts I’ve seen in SIS competition, there were two prominent highlights. First was the Bayside teams holding their resolve to come back to win the second set after being down 1-6. Second was an amazing serving display by Zoe McMaster who served for 25 straight winning points, including at least 10-15 aces, in the fourth set not allowing the opposition to score.
For their second game, Bayside’s Year 10 Girls Volleyball travelled out to Casey stadium. Bayside again put on a strong team performance, while continuing to develop as a team unit. They went on to win all 5 sets 25-7, 25-13, 25-12, 25-21, 25-11.
Secondary Swimming Carnival
The swimming carnival was such an incredible experience, and I was really impressed by the amazing culture and energy surrounding the event. It was fantastic to see everyone so excited and involved, whether they were swimming in the races or cheering passionately from the sidelines. The sense of community was strong, and the spirit of sports was definitely felt, everyone was bringing their positive energy, creating a fun and motivating atmosphere.
The whole event was filled with excitement and good vibes, and some amazing costumes. Conquerors did come out with the win today, however students and teachers are what made it all worthwhile.
