Music News

Dear Parents/Carers,
It has been a great start to the term in Instrumental Music. Our junior musicians have settled in well. They are attending their weekly lessons and improving on their chosen instrument. We held our first junior band rehearsal last Friday. What a blast! We had 25 players making music. The kids sounded great. I’m looking forward to our next rehearsal. We currently have 90 students in the program. Early signs tell me we are going to have a great year.
Lessons/Practice
A reminder to all students to take their instrument home after their lesson. I would recommend at least 20-25 minutes of practice per day. Remember practice makes perfect. If parents/carers could encourage regular practise that would be great.
Strings
Our beginner string players are making great progress. They have been very enthusiastic during lessons according to their teacher Donna Stemberger. String ensemble rehearsals are held every Tuesday during lunchtime in A1. This ensemble is currently learning new repertoire in preparation for their first performance which will be held early in term 2.
Intermediate Concert Band
Our students have settled in well to after school rehearsals which are held every Tuesday from 3.15-4.30pm. The group has nearly completed 3 arrangements which is a great sign. We look forward to their first performance.
Music Captains
Congratulations to our music captains Jaxon Marshall and vice captain Bobby-Joe Duan Smith. Both Jaxon and Bobby will assist me this year planning concerts and events around the College. Other jobs will include tuning the band at rehearsals, photocopying, writing articles for our newsletter and help mentor our junior musicians. I look forward to working with our captains this year.
Music Fees
Music tuition and hire fees are now due. Payment plans are also available if this is a suitable option. You can contact the office on 5147-1790.
Instrument Vacancies
We have lots of instruments available in the storeroom. Pop over to A1 and have a trial on the flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, trombone, violin, cello and voice. Music is fun!
On behalf of instrumental music teachers Robyn Keane and Donna Stemberger, enjoy the rest of the term.
