Year 9 News

Year 9 students have made a fantastic start to the year. The term has already been packed with sports, fantastic learning opportunities and incursions. In our Connect program, students have started trialling a new digital platform for their learning portfolios (Microsoft Sway). They will be showcasing their learning growth at the Student Led Conferences in Term 2. We are excited to try this new visual platform to present their reflections, work examples and learning growth. Term 2 Connect will see students focusing on building their career goals, engaging in mock interviews and of course resume writing. As Year 9 is a huge year of personal growth for our amazing students, we want to give them every opportunity to develop their personal attributes and skills, preparing them for Senior school and the world of work.

Over the past few weeks, we have been focusing on student attendance as we had many students turning up late to their classes. This has a direct impact on their learning. Students who were consistently late were placed on attendance focus sheets (which are signed by each classroom teacher). This has made a dramatic difference in reducing the number of students being late to class.

Parent teacher interviews will be happening at the end of this term. The Year 9 team would love to meet parents/carers to discuss your child’s learning progress at MSC. You can make your bookings on Compass.

A note about camp: Year 9 Camp is in Term 3 (10/9 to 12/9) and will be in Melbourne. Students will be staying at ‘The Village’ accommodation. During our Headstart program, students were given the opportunity to contribute suggestions for activities on the camp. It is a fantastic way for students to challenge themselves by navigating the city on foot and public transport, whilst doing activities they may not have the opportunity to do at home. More information about costing will be sent home before the end of Term 1.

Overall, we have had a really pleasing start to the term. I would like to congratulate all the Year 9 students on their efforts in NAPLAN this week.
