School Council

School Council update

School council met on the 24th of February for the first time this year. It was also the last meeting of the current council as the school council year starts with the AGM in March.

If you are interested in joining school council or know someone who is, now is the time to nominate. Simply ring the school or call at the front office to pick up a nomination form. Terms are for two years and there are 8 two hour meetings per year.

Rob Christie recently joined school council as a community member. Rob has been a school principal, publican and currently chair of the Maffra Community Bank board. He will be a valuable member of school council.

We were also welcomed Lachlan Barty, a Year 12 student at Maffra SC who came along out of interest to learn how school council operates. There are two student representatives on council already and that is the limit but any student, parent or interested person is welcome to come along any time.

We had reports from finance, environment, positive climate and curriculum committees and school principal, Jennifer Roep, gave us a run down on this year’s Annual Implementation Program (AIP). This is the part of the four year strategic plan which the school develops and then implements throughout the year.

This is the final year of the current strategic plan. Many of the goals set for this year have already been achieved which is somewhat amazing as most schools do not achieve their goals in the four years let alone three. It is a real credit to the staff, students and families at our school that we have done this.

A new strategic plan for the years 2026 to 2029 will be developed later this year after undergoing a school review in August. A lot of work and consultation goes into this plan and there is opportunity for all members of the school community to have input so please get involved.
