Year 7 & 8 News

As we move further into the school year, I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the fantastic efforts of our Year 7 and 8 students. It has been wonderful to see our young learners settling into their routines, embracing new challenges, and displaying commitment to their studies and extracurricular activities.
Our Year 7 students have done an incredible job transitioning into secondary school life. From navigating new subjects to forming friendships, their enthusiasm and resilience have been truly commendable. Likewise, our Year 8 students have had a positive start to the new year.
So far this term, we have seen great participation in various school events, including swimming sports and inter school sports. A special mention goes to those who have taken on leadership roles this year. Your hard work and dedication are greatly appreciated!
In Week 5, our Year 7 students had the incredible opportunity to attend camp at Camp Coolamatong. During this time, they participated in a variety of exciting activities, including canoeing, combat archery, and team-building challenges. It was fantastic to see them stepping out of their comfort zones, developing new skills, and strengthening friendships. A big thank you to the staff who made this experience possible.
This week, our Year 7 students have been undertaking NAPLAN. We are so proud of the way they have been conducting themselves throughout this time, showing respect and applying their learning diligently. Their dedication and perseverance are truly commendable, and we appreciate their efforts in giving their best during these assessments.
For our Year 8 students, mid-Term 2 will see the launch of their Live4Life program. Live4Life communities deliver Mental Health First Aid Australia® Teen and accredited Youth Mental Health First Aid training in schools and the wider community. The program creates local partnerships to lead conversations about mental health, reduce stigma, and promote young leaders as mental health ambassadors. We are excited for our students to take part in this valuable initiative, which will equip them with important skills and knowledge to support themselves and their peers.
This year, the Year 8 camp will once again take place in Term 4, from the 18th to the 20th of November. After the great success of previous years, we will be returning to Torquay for another fantastic experience.
More details will be shared closer to the date, but we encourage families to mark their calendars now!
This term, our Year 7 and 8 students have been studying important topics in their Learning 2 Learn program, including study skills, organization, time management, and team-building activities. To wrap up the term, we will be covering Emotional Literacy and exploring Personal and Cultural Strengths, helping students develop self-awareness and appreciation for their own and others' backgrounds.
As always, if you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to the 7 & 8 Team. Let’s continue making this year one of growth, achievement, and enjoyment for all our Year 7 and 8 students!
