Music

It’s been a busy start to the year in Music!
2025 PRODUCTION:
The venue has been booked so please mark in your calendars the date as it is going to be a night not to miss. More details will be announced next term.
Save the date: Thursday 11th September (evening)
Last week all classes began brainstorming ideas for what this year’s production theme will be. There were so many creative ideas! Over the next few weeks I will be collating all the ideas and choosing the most popular ideas and then classes will get to vote on which songs they are keen to have as their performance pieces.
Call out for volunteers: If you are interested in either of the following please email me at anita.olsson@education.vic.gov.au
- If you have any experience in dance choreography and are interested in helping out classroom teachers with choreography for their act please let me know and I will let your students’ teachers know to contact you!
- If you are super crafty and are interested in helping create the costumes for our main role students please send me an email so I can contact you once we know what the characters are. Most of the work will occur early Term 3.
Choir:
The 3-6 choir has been running on Tuesday lunchtimes. We are busy preparing for our first performance of the year at the NPS Fete. We will be performing at 12:05pm on the day so please come along and support our beautiful singers!
1/2s:
The 1/2 students have been focussing on learning about beat and rhythm through games and songs such as ‘Engine, Engine Number 9’, ‘See Saw’ and everyone’s favourite, ‘Caterpillar’.
We have also started learning songs on our tuned percussion instruments, with a focus on mallet grip and alternating our hands while playing. Some of the songs we have learnt are: ‘I wanna CCC’ and ‘Pudding on the Hill’.
3/4s:
We have been learning about crotchets, quavers and rests and using notation to identify and record bar long phrases. Some of the activities we have played to learn about rhythm are ‘Poison Rhythm’ and ‘Rhythm Clocks’.
We have also been working on matching pitch with our voices in songs and games such as ‘The Closet Key’ and ‘Obwisana’.
This week we have begun learning our Ukuleles. We started with the Am chord and worked on some different rhythmic strumming patterns.
5/6s:
We have been delving into listening to music in our listening journals. We have been listening to differing dynamics and timbre in pop songs and discussing how the artist/producers created interest through the use of the elements of music.
We have been learning about rhythmic note values and working mainly with crotchets, quavers and crotchet rests. We have been focussing on learning to clap different rhythms while counting out loud. We worked in small groups to create compositions with simple rhythmic ostinatos and included dynamics into our compositions. We have also been doing some rhythmic dictation, recording the note values we hear for four beat rhythmic phrases.
This week we have begun learning our Ukuleles. We started with the Am chord and worked on some different strumming patterns.
