Dear Parents and Carers,
S33 has had a fantastic start to the school year, settling into routines and procedures that help create a positive and productive classroom environment. It’s been wonderful to see the students embrace new challenges with enthusiasm and determination.
Buddy Classes
S33 is lucky to have two buddy classes this year! Mid-term, we had our first session, where students read to their buddies and helped them decorate their name tags. It was heartwarming to see them take on leadership roles, guiding and supporting our junior school students while forming great connections.
Mathematics
In Maths, we have been exploring data collection and different types of graphs, as well as diving into multiples, lowest common multiples, factors, and highest common factors. We have also started working on multiplication and division. The students have shown fantastic resilience and determination in tackling these concepts, and it’s been great to see their confidence grow.
Literacy
In Literacy, S33 has been working on writing narratives and procedural texts. One of the highlights of the term has been our novel study of Wonder. The students have engaged in deep discussions, exploring the story's character traits, themes, and key events. They have demonstrated great critical thinking skills and creativity through their responses. Here are some of their thoughts on our novel:
“I like that it is a sweet book. It shows that it doesn’t matter if you look different to others. My favourite quote has been, ‘When given the choice of being right and being kind, be kind.” - Saydie
“I like that it is funny. Summer and August are funny when they talk about letting Jack sit on the ‘Summer’ table.” - Emelia
“I like that it is funny. In one part they are in the car and the dad said that Mrs. Butt and Mr. Tushman can be known as the Tushies.” - Zoe
“I like the book because many people can relate to the story. For example, how August makes friends in the book.” - Alex
It has been a busy but brilliant start for our Year Five students, and we look forward to more exciting learning experiences in the coming weeks.
