CLASSROOM NEWS!

PREP/1 FUN
What a busy fortnight we are having already! Last week was the first cooking and MARC van sessions for our Preppies, and according to all sources, it was the best fun! This week we have few exciting adventures heading our way!
On Monday, we had ........ come to visit us from ..... During her visit we learnt all about ......
This week during our writing lesson's we are using a lovely mentor text called 'The Unwilling Twin' by Freya Blackwood. We will use the text to identify the main idea the author is trying to convey and how she has grabbed the readers attention. From here, we plan to write our own stories, using some of these effective writing traits.
As term 1 starts to wind down, our very clever Prep/1's have shown amazing growth with mathematical knowledge and this week will begin to wrap up their number work for term 1 and spend some time learning about 'time'. This is always a good fun topic to finish the term on.
This Friday we will head across to Marong for the annual Cross Country event. I always think our littlies get the best deal at this event, as they get to participate in the junior fun activities in the middle of the footy oval with all the other Prep-2 students from our small school cluster.
Have a fabulous week everyone
2/3 News
In the 2/3 room this fortnight, we have been practising our ability to be patient, flexible and understanding as our 3s sit their first ever NAPLAN assessments! The grade 3s have been very resilient while taking on this new challenge; congratulations to Kels, Fred and Thomas for their efforts.
In Literacy, we have been getting to know the ins and outs of persuasive writing! Students have been learning the difference between fact and opinion, and what makes a strong vs. weak argument to support this (apologies for the families at home if your child tries some new techniques to get out of bed time this week!)
In Maths, we have had a brief introduction to the world of Angles and students may have brought home a Pacman to prove what is or is not a right angle (90 degrees). We will be wrapping up the term with a unit on statistics, where we will be collecting, visualising and analysing data.
In other news, we are also welcoming two new friends Twiggy and Biggy this week; two juvenile spiny leaf insects! These two cuties are settling into their home nicely in their whizz-bang new enclosure. Please feel free to come and say hello (if you can find them amongst the foliage!)
4/5/6 Class News
Should kids have to play a sport? Are dogs better pets than cats? Is the country or city a better place to live?.... Our class has been learning about persuasive texts in literacy this fortnight. We have been learning not only the structure but also some features to make out writing more convincing, e.g. using high modality language, rhetorical questions, providing evidence and facts, quoting experts, etc. Students are now using these skills to write a persuasive text on a topic of their choice. When finished, students will publish these and they will be on display in our classroom for you to come and read.
In math's we have been working on our understanding of addition and subtractions as well as how they are linked. We also had a focus on 'chance'... the likelihood of an event occurring. Students are beginning to understand the language and statistics of chance and can use it to describe the probability of an event occurring.
