Oxley tops the EISM Division 2 Swimming

Our swimmers achieved amazing results in the pool at the EISM Division 2 Swimming Carnival this year to be crowned the overall winning school in Division 2 against some strong competition. Our boys won the Boys division and we also received the trophy for the most improved school. Our girls finished overall in second place.

The event took place at the Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre (MSAC) on Tuesday 4 March. The EISM hold both the Division 2 and Division 3 Swimming on the same day at MSAC with Division 3 schools swimming a race followed by Division 2 schools.

Our College is blessed with new swimming talent coming into Year 7 this year. With a strong Year 7 Girls group, we were able to spread the talent throughout our Age Groups which enabled select students to swim an age group up where needed.

Our students performed very well in their individual events with seven first places, 12 second places and eight third places. Oxley finished the day off strong in the two multi-age relays at the end of the day where we had five swimmers from a different age group participating in a 5x50m relay for boys and for girls. Oxley won both multi-age relays to secure our spot as the overall winners of the EISM Division 2 Swimming Carnival.

House Athletics

We were blessed with great weather for our annual House Athletics this year. It was cloudy but warm towards the end of the Carnival as students supported their Houses throughout the day. The House Athletics Carnival was held on Thursday 27 February at the Tom Kelly Athletics Track in Doncaster East. The day started off with a close competition between the three Houses, but one House started to increase their lead before lunch time.

After coming second in the swimming two weeks before, Gibeon Warriors (Red House) came back strong in the Athletics to win the day with 1,978 points, 136 points ahead for their closest rival Tabor Trojans (White House) who finished second with 1,842 points followed by 5x50m relay Zion Crusaders (Blue House) with 1,660 points. The three Houses started the Carnival with a chant competition towards their points for the House Spirit trophy. This created an excellent atmosphere just before our students started their competition.

It was great to see so many students participating for their Houses, making it a great competition throughout the day. The competition for the Spirit trophy was very close between the three Houses, but Tabor Trojans (White House) was the overall winner of the Spirit trophy at the end of the day.

Two new records

We had two new records broken this year. In the Girls U/14 Long Jump Mia F (8.6) broke the record from 4.01m to 4.86m and in the Open Girls 1500m Jess L (11.15) broke the record from 5.44.03 to 5.41.51. Congratulations to Mia and Jess for an outstanding effort.

Age Champion Athletes

Age Champions calculations are based on results in the events run on the day and the points the individual students gained for their House. Congratulations to the top three students for each year level and gender.

EISM Inter-School Athletics Competition

The EISM Inter-School Athletics Division 3 competition will take place during week four of Term 2 on Friday 16 May 2025. More details about this event will be published closer to the event.

Students who won for their age group at the House Athletics (those who are born earlier or later than most of their cohort will be compared to their age group – taken on 1 January this year) will represent Oxley at this event. The fastest 100m runners will be selected for the relay team for their age group. Unfortunately, discus will only be available for U/14; U/16 and Open at the EISM level. We hope to do well in this competition and strongly encourage students who won their events to focus on training and to attend the Fitness (Running) Group on Thursday afternoons at 3.45pm, meeting on Court 3 in the Stadium. Selected students and their parents will be notified of their participation in the EISM event.
