What Did You Do At School?

Prep

We love spending one lesson per cycle with our Year 6 Buddy, building new relationships. We have been working on forming our letters correctly and building words with magnetic letters. In Integrated Studies, we have wonderfully shared our family photos and practised talking in front of the class.

Year 1

Our seeds have burst into life! Some have thrived, while others remain dormant, sparking curiosity and inquiry. In Science, students have been exploring the life cycle of plants, investigating how different environments impact their growth. Through detailed observations, they are learning to capture the intricate details of their plants in both drawings and note-taking.

Beyond plants, we have also delved into the fascinating life cycle of frogs during Barn activities. Did you know that a single frog can lay up to 4,000 eggs at once?

Year 2

We have been working on some great activities! Hefting and using balance scales to learn about mass has been a fun, hands-on way to understand how things compare in terms of their weight. We have been working together in groups, and it has been a great way to share ideas and learn from each other!

A skill we have been developing in reading is making text-to-self connections. We have learnt to find something in the text that reminds us of a feeling or experience we have had. This helps us understand the stories we read, which makes reading feel more personal and meaningful.

In Integrated Studies, we have been learning about our community. To further our understanding about how an organisation contributes to the community, we had Mrs De Vincentis come to talk to the us about what Life Ministry Church does in the community through the Be the Love program. It was an inspiring and interesting presentation. Thank you for visiting us and helping us learn more about our community Mrs De Vincentis!

Year 3

Over the last two weeks, it has been time for us to become experts in telling the time. Remembering that minute is the longest word, so it has the longest hand, we have worked with precision and confidence. Test us at home to see how we can not only read the time to the minute but how we can use to and past to show the time in other ways.

We have also learnt that high modality language can communicate our opinion in a strong way. Undoubtedly, you must ask us to persuade you about whether the next family holiday should be an adventurous camping trip, or a luxurious hotel stay!

Year 4

Do you love chocolate? In Mathematics, we have been racing to see who can eat all three blocks of our chocolate game board first. We have been identifying equivalent fractions and understanding how to write and draw improper and mixed fractions as we colour in our chocolate squares. If only this was real chocolate!

We are also getting very excited as we head off to our camp at Mill Valey Ranch next week! We are counting down the sleeps!

Year 5

In Integrated Studies, we are currently learning about democracy and the functions of our government. We have relished the opportunity to explore the concept of debating and how this form of persuasive expression is used regularly within political parties. Equipped with emotive language, high modality words and expressive stories, we presented arguments in front of our peers. We debated important issues, such as Should mobile phones be allowed at school?, Should we call teachers by their first name? and Should homework be compulsory?

Over the past few weeks, we have also had the pleasure of meeting our Year 1 buddies. We are excited to work alongside our little buddies and support them with different activities throughout the year.

Year 6

As we are visiting our nation’s capital this term, we acted like politicians when debating school rules in Integrated Studies. We demonstrated teamwork, formulated persuasive arguments, and developed our public speaking skills. The victorious teams were those that backed up their arguments with evidence and engaged the audience. We are looking forward to comparing our experience with what we witness in Parliament House.
