From the Principal

It has been wonderful observing our students engage in so many co-curricular activities during the first month of the new school year. Collectively, our co-curricular program at Oxley is known as Oxley Horizons. The Horizons program aims to enrich the learning journey of students and in turn help them to discover and develop their gifts and talents for God’s glory. It consists of four domains: Discovery, Influence, Expression and Service. In addition to engaging in a rigorous academic program during Term 1, students have commenced participating in various activities, programs and events including camps, excursions, and incursions (Discovery); serving at School at Work and House assemblies (Influence); participating in ensembles and choirs, musical rehearsals, and House carnivals (Expression); and participating in buddy programs, Chapel services, and assemblies (Service).
A special outcome for students participating in the Oxley Horizons is the connections they develop with other students. Many of the co-curricular activities incorporate students from several year levels, allowing students to expand their friendships across the College and help them experience a greater sense of belonging at Oxley. Flourishing relationships support our students with their well-being and ultimately their engagement in the learning program.
The Oxley Horizons program is grounded in Christian values, including respect, service, and joy. Across the year, I trust our students will develop perseverance, teamwork, and grit, among other skills, while they engage in activities. At Oxley, we ultimately look to Christ for inspiration in everything we do.
This year, our theme verse reminds us of the significance of maintaining our connection with Christ. At Oxley, we are grateful that we have an opportunity to intentionally reflect on what is true, good and beautiful in everything that we do.
I am the vine; you are the branches.
If you remain in Me and I in you,
you will bear much fruit;
apart from Me you can do nothing.
John 15:5
On Saturday 3 May, there will be an opportunity to learn more about Oxley Horizons at our annual Open Day. We look forward to welcoming current and prospective families to this event, which will commence at 11.00am. Further details will be posted on our social media platforms and our website as the day approaches. Open Day also presents us with an opportunity to gather as a community to celebrate the learning that has taken place during Semester 1 and everything that makes our Christ-centred approach to education unique.
At Oxley, worship, learning, service, and life together support us to develop stronger connections with each other and with Christ. Our co-curricular programs help our students to remain focused on God and equip our students to live out their faith with wisdom and virtue. May we continue to flourish together in unity, encouraging one another and deepening our relationship with both one another and Christ.
Working together,
Michael Bond
