Grade 3 and 4

Term One Wrap Up! 🎉
Challenge-Based Learning
As we reach the end of Term 1, it’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown! This term, our learning has been guided by the Big Idea of 'Connection,' which has enriched all areas of the curriculum. Our students have explored their connections to family, friends, and communities, working in groups with less familiar peers on challenging tasks that required teamwork, communication, and leadership. The term culminated in our challenge to 'Show the Power of Connection' through visits to Burch Memorial Kinder. Our Grade 3 students met the four-year-old kinder students, while our Grade 4 students connected with the three-year-olds. In preparation for these visits, students collaborated in their CBL groups to design engaging games to teach the kinder students, fostering new relationships. Each student took on a specific role within their group, to develop teamwork skills and a smooth experience for all. We were incredibly proud of how our students represented our school, demonstrating kindness and care as they guided and supported their younger peers. During reflections, many students shared how much they enjoyed the experience and expressed hopes that these connections would continue to grow with future visits.
Literacy
This term, we explored a variety of texts aligned with our Big Idea of 'Connection,' discovering how this theme is universal. Students examined how characters connect to places and one another, as well as how different texts can be interrelated. To conclude the term, students planned and wrote narratives based on family stories. Some chose to recount personal experiences, such as missing pets or holiday mishaps, while others shared stories passed down from parents and grandparents. Some wrote strictly factual accounts, while others embraced creativity and exaggeration to enhance their storytelling. We encourage you to ask your child about their narrative, as many students beautifully captured the significance of family stories in their work.
Numeracy
Students wrapped up the term by exploring two-dimensional and three-dimensional shapes, a focus that will continue into Term 2. They identified shape properties and investigated how shapes can be combined to form composite structures. Additionally, learners reinforced and expanded their understanding of place value throughout the term. Over the holidays, we encourage students to engage in real-life math experiences, such as measuring and fractions in cooking, as well as tracking scores in family board games and sports matches.
Special Events
Term 1 concluded with some fantastic events! A heartfelt thank you to everyone who supported our Colour Run. This fundraiser was a tremendous success, thanks to the generosity of our community. It remains a student favourite and is consistently reflected upon as a highlight of the year. Students also embraced the spirit of competition and camaraderie during Cross Country, proudly donning their house colours. We were delighted to see their enthusiasm and perseverance, as well as the sportspersonship they displayed by cheering each other on to the finish line.
We wish all of our families a restful and safe holiday and look forward to seeing you in Term 2!
