Grade 1 and 2
Term One Wrap Up! π
Learning π
Literacy
Inspired by a range of texts, students have been expanding their vocabulary, using rich and descriptive language in both writing and discussions. It has been wonderful to see them confidently incorporating new words! Through our CBL learning about Connections, students are developing a deeper understanding of what it means to create and nurture respectful, kind relationships. This has helped them empathise with characters, make meaningful text-to-text connections and explore important themes of friendship and inclusivity. Their thoughtful reflections have brought our stories to life, inspiring rich discussions and deeper learning.
Maths
Our Grade One and Two students have been busy exploringpatterns using numbers, Unifix cubes, paper chains and more! Hands-on activities have helped us recognise, make and extend patterns in creative ways.
As we wrap up the term, we are diving into 2D shapes, expanding our vocabulary as mathematicians. Weβve been learning words like polygon, vertices, edges, symmetry and quadrilateral to describe and understand different shapes more deeply.
CBL
Students have been working together in STEM challenges in CBL, pushing themselves to navigate through conflict and challenging situations. These hands-on activities encouraged them to collaborate as a team, communicate effectively and support each other positively. As they worked through problems, students learned the importance of problem-solving, patience and cooperation. By the end of the challenges, they felt proud individually and as a collective, having achieved success through teamwork and perseverance. It was a wonderful opportunity to develop not only their critical thinking skills but also their ability to build strong, respectful relationships while overcoming obstacles together.
Events βοΈ
Harmony Day π§‘
In Week Eight, we came together to celebrate Harmony Day, reflecting on the importance of diversity, respect and belonging within our school community. Students wore a splash of orange to symbolise these values and took part in thoughtful discussions about kindness, empathy, and how we can create an environment where everyone feels valued. It was a wonderful chance to celebrate the ways we are all unique and how our collective kindness strengthens us as a community.
Colour Run Fun π
Our annual Colour Run was an absolute blast! Our Grade One and Two students raced, laughed, and got wonderfully messy with bright splashes of colour. It was an afternoon full of energy and excitement, definitely earning a double thumbs up from all involved!
Cross Country Champions! ππΌββοΈ
Our Grade One and Two students did an amazing job cheering on their houses and tackling their own runs in our school Cross Country event in Week Nine! They showed fantastic perseverance as they took on a longer course, all while keeping big smiles on their faces.
The day was made even better by perfect sunshine and a delicious BBQ lunch to celebrate everyone's efforts. A huge congratulations to all our runners for their determination and team spirit!
Connection Groups π
In Week Nine, we had the chance to meet in our new Connections Groups for 2025! We played fun getting-to-know-you games and had meaningful discussions about our school values, Be Kind, Be Safe, Be a Learner, all whilst building strong relationships across year levels. We're so thankful to our Grade Sixes for their leadership in making these groups a positive and enjoyable experience!
CBL Celebration Day π
Our CBL Celebration Day was a truly special moment, bringing our Grade One and Two students together for a joyful picnic lunch and a lovely sharing session of our Connections social stories. These stories beautifully captured everything weβve learned about making and keeping friends, and it was heartwarming to see the students not only celebrating their growth but also forming new and meaningful connections. The smiles, laughter and genuine kindness shared made it an afternoon filled with warmth, friendship, and unforgettable moments!
A huge thank you to our wonderful families for supporting your children in completing their social stories at home with such thoughtful reflections and happy snaps. Your involvement made this experience even more meaningful, and we loved seeing the effort and care that went into each story.
