Throughout the year we raise awareness and celebrate our diverse community through play experiences, discussions and the celebration of special cultural events. Harmony Week is a special week at kinder. It recognises and celebrates all cultural backgrounds of our families in our community.
Some of the ways we identify and observe different cultures is by the way we look, the way we dress and the foods we eat. The children have had many conversations about food during morning tea and lunch and have noticed some children have sandwiches, some have rice, some have dumplings, some have sushi and some have chicken nuggets. Everybody's lunchbox is different and they are all delicious!
On Wednesday. Our 3 year old groups, Acacia and Banksia celebrated culture with a special shared banquet. We asked our families to bring a plate of food that represented their cultural identity or heritage. We were treated to an array of foods from Iran, India, Australia, England, Italy, China, Japan, Vietnam just to name a few. How lucky we are to be part of such a culturally diverse community, one where can share food and celebrate our differences and our similarities. After all... we all smile the same language.
