Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden 2025

Today was the end of our time with 3/4CB.  How does seven weeks go so fast?  We’ve had such a fun time together and learnt so much about being in the garden and how good fresh food tastes in different recipes.

Last week in the garden, we had a very important job to do and that was to paint a sign for our new compost area. The gardening students did a wonderful job at keeping the letters straight and trying to make them nice and big.  They also attempted to paint various fruits and vegetables, although we only had three colours so we need to try again when we have some more colours to choose from.  We harvested two big beautiful butternut pumpkins but we have counted over 10 so lots of pumpkin meals are coming our way.

In the kitchen today, we ran a super speedy lesson as we had to cut the kitchen class in half due to the colour run. At 10am the students worked hard chopping and grating an array of colourful veggies to put onto our pizzas.  The parents and the students worked so hard and made so many beautiful vegetarian pizzas that tasted delicious. They even had grated pumpkin that came from our pumpkin patch.

A huge thank you to our wonderful volunteers who generously give their time to support us over the last seven weeks. We truly appreciate the help of Gabi (Victoria's Mum), Kathy (Luka's Grandmother), Amanda (Flynn’s Mum), Rosie (Lewis' Mum), Kathy (Georgina's Mum), Ros (Zoe’s Mum), Kathy (Kiara’s Mum), Ben (Ethan’s Dad) and Milena (Joseph’s Mum). We know it isn’t easy swapping work schedules and taking time off but we really appreciate it.  We couldn’t run this program without you!

Student Reflections:

Today is my second last week of SAKGP, because I'm a 4th grader. It's our last year. In our salad we put in soy sauce, celery, mint and spring onion.  Gabby was helping us again [Victoria's Mum]. We had to chop the celery and spring onion. I’m  really sad because we don’t have any more after this year because 5 and 6 don’t do it and high school doesn't. I really hope our last meal is something good. In my group were Victoria, Cristan, Ethan, Lulubelle and Me.  By Zoe

Today we finally made the main meal. The onion burned my eyes again. I really hate  onions. The main meal was pumpkin soup. The pumpkin soup was a bit to sweet  . Also the bread today was peach muffins. It was so delicious  I couldn't wait to eat.  By Oliver

Today I made fruit muffins with eggs, flour, peaches, yoghurt and oil. I had a lot of fun helping the adults and I also had to do a rush job to help dry dishes! That was hectic!! This lesson was by far the best! By Jacqueline
