Foundation

The Foundation and Year 6 students got together to share narratives. The Year 6 students wrote stories specifically for Junior children, and they really thought about their writer’s voice. Their stories also had a lesson or moral.

The Foundation students shared their superhero stories, and many proudly shared other writing pieces from their books!

We were very impressed with all the students' engagement in the playground while stories were shared. Please see the photos of our wonderful students below.

Year 1

After a big week of learning, Year 1 enjoy ‘Fun Friday’ and spend some time at the end of the day playing together. This time assists students to practice taking turns, sharing and using their imaginations. Some of the favourite activities are the marble run, kinetic sand, dolls house, playdough and drawing with stencils.

Year 1-2 Soiree: When I Grow Up

On Wednesday 1 November, Year 1 and Year 2 students presented “When I Grow Up”, a concert of songs on the theme of growing up and future jobs. After a short welcome from Mrs. Lane, students from Year 1 and Year 2 delivered the Acknowledgement of Country, welcomed the audience, and introduced each item with excellent presentation skills.

Year 2 opened the performance with “My Dream Job”, a song wondering about all the possible jobs that people can choose. This was followed by 2A singing “The Mad Scientist”, regaling the audience with a series of crazy inventions while suitably dressed in lab coats, safety glasses and wild hair. 2B entertained the audience with a song about musical careers, “Music Makes Me Feel Alive”.

Then it was Year 1’s turn, with 1B performing “The Policeman”, reminding us of the ways that police officers help us to feel safe. 1A then took to the stage with “Score the Winning Goal”, singing about the hard work needed to be a professional sportsperson. 1B returned to the stage, joining 1A to sing “I’ll Be Me”, reminding us all that, whatever path we choose in life, it's important to be ourselves.

For the grand finale, all the students joined together with a moving performance of “When I Grow Up” from Matilda the Musical. It was the perfect note to end a brilliant performance. Mrs. McLeod closed the evening with a heartfelt thanks and congratulations to all involved.

We want to again express our gratitude to all the staff and students involved for the effort that went into putting on such a wonderful performance! We are immensely proud of all the students who performed, especially those who were nervous about performing on stage, in front of an audience, for the first time. A special thanks goes to our excellent Multimedia Captains, Archer, Isaac, and Benjamin, who gave up their time to ensure the sound for the performance ran smoothly.

Year 4

Shapes are everywhere! The year 4 students have been focusing on 2D and 3D shapes in their Mathematics lessons. We have had some great conversations about whether or not 2D shapes exist in a 3D world. We spent time looking at the nets of 3D shapes (what a 3D shape looks like unfolded) and had a go at drawing and folding our own. The children were given the nets of nine 3D shapes that had been cut in half and then had to work out which pieces went together to create the 3D shapes. We’ve had lots of fun doing all the hands on activities.

Year 6 - Marine Ambassador Recap

At Ormond Primary School, the Marine Ambassadors have an exciting and important duty to look after the sea animals and learn about them more.

So this is why, on the 8th of November, we went on a lengthy ride to Ricketts Point, near the seaside and off the coast. Once we arrived, we gathered with other schools to talk and form groups.

Many were excited and eager, as we got introduced to Lionel, who is an Aboriginal man from one of the oldest tribes of Victoria. He has told us the history of the tribe and how it affected the land when the European colonies decided to inhabit Victoria. He then showcased the different ways the indigenous people used their tools, which were handmade out of wood, to live on the land. As well as herbal medicines made from leaves and wild plant life which they used to treat things like bee stings.

It was fascinating to learn about the conditions they had to live in the recent centuries they’ve been there. We even had to identify different types of trash through sifting in sand. This is also a fun activity but withholds a very serious meaning behind it.

In conclusion, all the Marine Ambassadors had fun and learned many valuable things leaving the beach that day, which we can’t wait to bring back and share with you all at Ormond Primary.
