Foundation/Early Primary

The Early Primary students have had a busy Term 4. Foundation students began their community access, heading out on the buses to explore their community. They have visited local reserves and the botanical gardens play park.

Our teaching staff have been working away on final assessments to finalise our end of year reports. It’s been amazing to see the progress of our students throughout the year and how far they have come.

Our curriculum focus this term has been on moderating student writing. Teachers have been investigating writing tools to incorporate into the classroom to support students generat their own ideas and finding their alternate pencils. We have been incorporating students AAC devices, fine motor, sensory exploration, and hands on manipulatives to explore student writing.

In numeracy this term we have been focusing on addition and subtraction and patterns. Students have been using hands on manipulatives such as building blocks to add items together to find the total of a whole collection. Students have been exploring the beginning of data and have been investigating interpreting simple data displays such as answering yes/no questions.

In science this term students have been looking at creating their own musical instruments and exploring different sounds. Students began to explore different ways that they can communicate and contribute their ideas in experiments.

Early Primary students continued to explore their ‘Play to Learn’ program outside as a whole cohort. Every Friday, students explore sensory play, music, dance and gross motor while working on play skills alongside each other supported by the whole staffing team. Students have taken a great interest in using their communication devices to request sensory items and songs to listen and dance too.

We have had such a great year of learning and growing together as our Early Primary cohort and thank you for your continued support. Our last day of term will be Wednesday 20th December with a 1.30 pm finish for the end of 2023. We look forward to welcoming you all back in January 2024.
