PERFORMING ARTS NIGHT OVERVIEW

The Reservoir High School Semester 2 Performing Arts Night was held on Tuesday October 17th. The evening proved to be an extremely successful night for all areas of the Performing Arts, music, dance, and drama. All areas of the Performing Arts were well represented and there was a wide variety of performances put on by the students.

The evening kicked off with one of the Year 12 bands, Hybrid Audio performing an original work and a classic Audioslave tune, ‘Like a Stone’. This was followed by the Year 9 drama class performing an interpretation of Persephone’s Myth, which then led into the first of the dance items, demonstrating a variety of styles by some very talented young performers.

Music then returned to the stage with the Middle Ensemble and Guitar Ensemble performing entertaining renditions of their respective pieces. The audience was then treated to some more dance items and the first act concluded with an awe-inspiring piano performance by Year 12 solo piano student, Oskar Pearce.

The second act began with a dramatic first act thanks to the VCE Theatre Studies class;

an eclectic array of items, including a very provocative piece by Lukas Duffy. Giorgio Blackwell’s rendition of Miss Trunchbull from ‘Matilda’ was especially amusing. The second act continued with more dancing items from Kaitlyn De-Coi and Indi Quinn. The night concluded with three final music acts; the vocal ensemble giving an entertaining rendition of ‘Johnny B. Goode’, the Senior Contemporary Ensemble performing ‘Gold on the Ceiling’ and the final number was performed by the VCE Music Performance class, the classic Huey Lewis tune, ‘The Power of Love’.

The diverse talent of the Reservoir High School Performing Arts Department was on full display and all involved students gave excellent performances. 2024 promises to be an even bigger and better year to come!

Special thanks goes out to Tegan French for managing the backstage crew, and Yicheng Chen (Year 8) for handling the stage lighting on the night.
