Principal's Report

A message from the Principal

The commencement of Term 4 can be characterised by celebration, achievement and excellence. When our students returned to school following the holidays, they were focused and re-charged ready for the busy term ahead. Our School Review started and I thank all students and our parents who have taken part in Focus Groups and shared their insights into what makes Reservoir High School so remarkable and what they believe our next phase of whole-school improvement needs to be.

Week 2 was a particular highlight as the annual Performing Arts Evening took place and what a spectacular event it was. The quality of the performances was outstanding and the diversity of talent, skill and genre was extraordinary. I was captivated from start to finish and experienced all possible emotions, including being moved to tears by our VCE Theatre Study monologues to laughing deeply at the joy radiated by the Vocal and Senior Contemporary Ensembles. Every performer gave it their all and demonstrated immense passion, commitment and courage.

12 Final Assembly

The Year 12 Final Assembly and Graduation Evening were held in the days following and these events allowed us to share the enormous impact that this year’s graduating class have had on our school; the lessons we have learnt from them and those we wish to impart, before we bid them a final farewell. It was particularly special to stand alongside our parents and families who were all deeply proud of their young adults and celebrate a remarkable achievement – graduating from high school. These fine individuals joined us as curious and energetic children and over the six years that they were in our care, leave us as considerate, responsible and ambitious young adults. I wish our Year 12 students all the luck in the world with your continual learning and studies. Please do come back and visit at times, no matter where your paths may go. You will always remain a member of the Reservoir High School community.

The Year 12 Exams commenced this week, starting with the English/EAL exam. It was heartening to see the focus and determination demonstrated by the students sitting the exam and they will no doubt be rewarded at the end for the effort they have put in.

I have shared with all of our school community that we are now in the second stage of the re-building of Reservoir High School. This stage includes the building of a new state-of-the-art Science and Technology Wing and a new Canteen. The build will take 12 months in total and will be done in three parts, so as to minimise the impact on the learning program. The demolition of part of the old B Block Technology building will begin in mid-November, before construction of the new spaces commence. There will be some changes needed for how we move around the school grounds, so as to accommodate the building site. Students will be given information prior to construction fences being erected.

We are busily preparing for 2024 and families of students moving into Years 9-12 will be receiving the confirmed course of their child’s chosen subjects and the associated costs. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the school.

I look forward to seeing so many of our parents throughout this term at various events, culminating in the Awards Evening on the 6th of December.

Kind regards,

Katie Watmough
