Socktober Day for Catholic Mission

Thank you to everybody who got involved in yesterday's Socktober Day for Catholic Mission.

All students participated in a Liturgy with their Buddy Class around the theme of Mission, they also made sockballs and donated money in exchange for wearing crazy socks to school. Overall we raised $180.20 for Catholic Mission. See below for some photos of the day.

A snapshot of RE Learning in 3/4JH

This term, students in 3/4 JH have been learning about Mary and discipleship in our church. Students have reflected on the ways in which Mary was a disciple. We have also been learning about Mary and the Annunciation. Students reflected on Mary when the Angel Gabriel visited her :

  • What did Mary see?
  • What did Mary hear?
  • What did Mary think?
  • What did Mary feel?
  • What did Mary say?

We have been studying different images of Mary, traditional and contemporary, and have identified the symbols artists use in their images. Symbols such as:

  • Halo
  • Lilies
  • Blue clothing
  • Dove

We have begun to create our own abstract art works, depicting Mary. Here is a little sneak peak....

Sunday Gospel

The liturgy of the Catholic Church provides a framework for reflection which is used by Catholics throughout the world. Each week in the Newsletter, you will find the Sunday Gospel as well as some discussion questions to have with your child/ren.

A reading from the holy Gospel according to Matthew

When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees they got together and, to disconcert him, one of them put a question, ‘Master, which is the greatest commandment of the law?’ Jesus said, ‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: you must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also.’

Discussion Questions

1. What does Jesus say is the most important commandment?

2. What did Jesus say was the second most important commandment?

3. How do we show we love God?

4. How do we show we love others as much as we love ourselves?

5. What would the world be like if we all believed these commandments and put them into practice?
