Love Your Library

As we come towards the end of our first full year as a working library, it is wonderful to see that 1455 copies of books have been borrowed. This is almost double the number borrowed in 2022. While 2022 began with a space for the library, but no furniture or books, 2023 sees a wonderful busy space with many enthusiastic readers. With ample space for readers, keen workers and students seeking help from teachers, the library is now a vibrant learning space with no down time.

The end of the year is a time for housekeeping in the library. Students only have a few weeks of school left. We need to have all borrowed books returned and accounted for. The final task in the library is a stocktake. We chase up lost books, weed out damaged books, make lists of books to order in the new year and reorganise the collection to make it more accessible for our readers. This is also a time for planning for 2024. The library runs themed displays and programs to engage readers. These are planned to complement the calendar.

The library works hard to support learning areas with a variety of programs. Possibly our keenest collaboration is with the English Department. With a strong commitment to support literacy programs, the library works closely with English teachers to supplement reading programs and celebrate student achievement. Our most popular e-boards this year have featured extracts of students’ creative writing. The e-boards also feature study tips, student book reviews and books from the collection.

Together let us read.
