Festive Cheer and a Festival of Learning

With the Rio Tinto Christmas Lights officially turning on tonight in the City of Perth and festive cheer filling the shops, the end of the 2023 school year is fast approaching and there is an air of excitement within the school with our Christmas Tree being erected today in front reception.

This year we will conclude the academic school year with a wonderful Activities Week, a Festival of Learning, in Week Nine from Monday 4 December – Friday 8 December. There will be lots of educational, adventurous, and fun filled activities occurring throughout the week for students across Year 7 – 10 with the focus of the week being on friendships, learning and service. We hope that the new ‘Festival of Learning’ will be a joyful celebration of the end of the school year for staff and students alike.

Our Year 11s will have their important Transition to Year 12 Week where they come together as a year group and prepare themselves more fully to step into their leadership roles as the Class of 2024 with confidence and courage.  The last day of term, Friday 8 December, will conclude as usual with our traditional SportzFest and FreedomFest activities hosted by our spectacular Phys Ed and Music Departments.

The next two weeks of school will be a little quieter at 50 William Street with the Year 10 and Year 11 ATAR students undertaking their end of year examinations at CQU and our Year 9s heading off on their eagerly awaited and much anticipated rescheduled Year 9 Camp. Our Year 7 and 8 students will have the delight of a few days where they will have the whole campus to themselves.

As we countdown the last 15 school days until the end of the 2023 school year, I remind you of our end of year special events to which you are warmly welcome – the Academic Awards Assembly on Monday 4 December from 1.45pm and Presentation Evening on Wednesday 6 December commencing at 6.00pm, where we will be joined by Archbishop Kay Goldsworthy AO.

We are also offering an opportunity for the St George’s School Community to come together for an intimate evening of Christmas Carols on Monday 4 December at 6.30pm. All these events will be held at St George’s Cathedral, our School Chapel!, and provide a perfect opportunity for a celebration of all that we have achieved as a school this year – do please join us if you can.

Wishing you all a wonderful weekend,

Mrs Tina Campbell
